Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The only weakness I can see for this practice is lack of multiple locations. Hopefully they can expand into other areas of Raleigh/Durham and still maintain the great success rates and reputations in the future. Carolina Conceptions has one of the highest success rates in the country. I've referred 2 friends to the practice and Dr. Meyer and both are having great experiences as I did.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer was friendly and warm and also to the point during appointments. He answered all of our questions and we didn't feel rushed when meeting with him.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
During the weeks I was doing IVF I was in the office quite a bit and got to know some of the nursing staff. I didn't necessary see the same nurse every time I went, but all of them were very friendly and warm and encouraging.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer is very knowledgeable but understands we're novice so we were thankful he spoke to us in terms we can understand. Fertility issues are scary, but we really felt we had an advocate in Dr. Meyer to help us achieve our goals by whatever means to had to.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Try and be prepared on knowing the different fertility treatment options when you go in for your consultation. It will make you that much more educated and ready to make a decision once you speak with Dr. Meyer.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I was put on Letrozole for 4 months to try and regulate my cycle. After timing intercourse and not getting pregnant on Letrozole, Dr. Meyer explained all the other options; IUI and IVF. We decided to go right to IVF since it had the highest success rate. We put in 2 embryos & got pregnant on our first IVF cycle. We are now 31 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Thankfully cost wasn't a concern for us. My company sets aside up to $30,000 for employees to use towards fertility treatments and/or adoption costs.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer was very personable and communicated very effectively and in a friendly manner via email during my preparation. He knows my story and why we are there each time. He remembers things about my family that lets me know he has paid attention to me each visit and interaction.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I actually really love all the nurses. I particularly am grateful to Terry who did my IUI and was so warm and friendly I felt comforted.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer has a way of being absolutely frank with educated information but also being realistic. I appreciate not being misled but having absolute honesty expressed with compassion. He always has alternative options for next plan type scenarios so I never felt like we hit a wall. My husband loved his bedside manner and frankly I feel comfortable enough to give him a hug next time I see him!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Know you are in good hands. Dr. Meyer speaks his opinions from decades of experience. I find he is willing to do what is best for the patient and not necessarily just the standard practice in terms of meds etc. I appreciate a clinic that is research based on what is up and happening in fertility currently. I found many of the clinics were just really standard and did same treatments for everyone in a given diagnosis. He is frank. Dr. Meyer will gently give you his opinion but you can bet it is coming from a genuine place. I felt confident he wouldn't offer me false confidence but also would be sincere in offering his honest medical opinion.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We had only male factor ( elected sterilization) that was our issue. My AMH is high for my age so meds were minimal.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Costs were for monitorings, consult visits, and IUI procedures as well as sperm storage.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Strengths - Great success rates, wonderful front office staff, great doctors and compassionate nurses Weaknesses - The phone triage system. Trying to get through to the front desk is very difficult and frustrating at times. Communication about how you may see all three doctors (or one more than the other) and not just the doctor you originally met with. Feeling "rushed" during monitoring visits.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
When we first visited Carolina Conceptions, we met with Dr. John Park to discuss our treatment options. We came up with our plan to move forward with IVF and I was issued my protocol. I was not told that I would most likely be seen by the other RE's in the practice and we haven't seen Dr. Park since our initial consult. I have been satisfied with the care we have received through Dr. Meyer, however, communication as to how the monitoring and cycle would proceed under the care of any of the 3 doctors in the practice would have been nice.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
We met with Elisa for our IVF class. She was great at explaining what to expect, showing us how to do the injections, etc. She is very responsive via email and is accessible.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
We have seen Dr. Meyer for every one of our IVF visits to date. Although we originally met with Dr. Park, Dr. Meyer has performed all of our ultrasounds. There was some confusion at first about med dosage, etc. as Dr. Park came up with the protocol but Dr. Meyer was the one communicating and executing it. At first, I wasn't sure if I like Dr. Meyer's approach, but I've grown to trust and appreciate his directness. I know that Carolina Conceptions is a busy place and that to the doctors, this is just another day at the office, but for those of us going through ART, this is one of the most monumental experiences we'll ever go through. I do trust Dr. Meyer, however, I don't know that I've always felt "heard" when I voiced concerns or posed questions.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Make sure you have your list of questions (if you have any) ready as he is generally very quick in the monitoring appointments. He does answer all of your questions but I typically get the impression that they are very busy and he needs to move on to the next patient.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Antagonist protocol - gonal-f and menopur with lupron/hCG trigger to prevent OHSS. Cycle currently in progress, results TBD.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
There are a few options for the IVF cycles - a standard fresh cycle, the "ONE" plan, and then the cost of a FET. Single Cycle (Standard IVF) = $10,155 (plus additional charges for PGD/PGS, ultrasounds, labs, SA's, medications, and embryo storage) Frozen Embryo Storage (FET) - $3,000 (plus additional charges for ultrasounds/labs, embroy storage, and meds) The ONE (One Normal Embryo) Plan with FET - $15,225 (plus ultrasounds, labs, medication, PGS testing, embryo storage, etc).

[Carolina Conception's] strengths: The clinic has great hours! I was able to schedule many procedures before work, on a Saturday, or on a Sunday. They really worked well around your schedule and your cycle...Weaknesses: The doctors do not seem to communicate with one another about a particular treatment plan. One doctor will prescribe a treatment plan, but then the next appointment you see another doctor and they indicate you should be doing something differently. I was always confused about what to do based upon multiple doctor's suggestions. The doctors do not follow up. They expect you to be the one to follow up and initiate the next phone call or appointment. I feel like the doctors could do a better job, even if just by email, of sending a quick follow up of what to expect next and what would occur at your next appointment and when that next appointment is. My husband and I stopped going for treatments, tests, rounds of fertility meds. Instead of throwing money at something that may not happen, we decided to throw our money towards adopting. I never received a follow up call or email from the doctor to ask if I wanted to schedule another appointment. It's been 4 months...crickets. I feel that a doctor should follow up or be more concerned about how his patient is doing, even if we decide not to come back.

Strengths: The clinic has great hours! I was able to schedule many procedures before work, on a Saturday, or on a Sunday. They really worked well around your schedule and your cycle. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel at ease. The clinic can do many of the procedures at their facility, so you don't need to go to a separate office/hospital. The clinic is knowledgeable about the most up to date treatments and medications. Weaknesses: The doctors do not seem to communicate with one another about a particular treatment plan. One doctor will prescribe a treatment plan, but then the next appointment you see another doctor and they indicate you should be doing something differently. I was always confused about what to do based upon multiple doctor's suggestions. The doctors do not follow up. During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Park took the time to sit down with my husband and I to go over all of the questions we had, suggest a plan for treatment, and understand any concerns I had. I felt like a human during this process.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nursing staff seemed friendly; however, they made errors on several occasions during my visits. During my initial visit, my husband and I were asked to do a blood draw. The blood was to go to a DNA group to get our DNA pairing to see if any issues came up as well as general testing, hormone levels, etc. Our blood was only sent to the DNA group and never sent to the lab for additional testing. Dr. Park asked us to come back again to do the blood draw so that they could send to the lab for additional testing. The wrong tests were performed....the lab blamed it on the nurse....the nurse blamed it on the lab. So then we had to go in for blood draw 3 (paying for each blood draw, mind you...and each lab fee). This time, the right tests were completed. One particular nurse I had on more than one occasion was not very communicative nor was she very friendly. I always felt like I was a burden to her. She would not direct me to go to the check-out desk after a procedure. She would just say "You can get dressed now." So I'd get dressed and sit in the room, thinking a doctor would come back in to talk to me. But then she'd come back in and say I was done and could leave now.
What specific things went wrong at this clinic?
  • Lost paperwork
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
  • Lost results
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
  • Lost or damaged samples
How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was personable and got to know us during a sit down session. He offered a course of treatment. I was a patient of Dr. Park, but each time I went, I saw a different doctor, that I did not know or did not have a connection with. If I am going to be treated by 3 doctors and have 3 doctor's opinions, I would like to meet all 3 of them during my one-on-one "get to know you" session so that everyone is on the same page. I felt like I would get one plan of treatment from Dr. Park and then another plan of treatment from one of the other doctor's. It wasn't a consistent treatment plan.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Ask to see him every time OR ask to have the other doctors involved in your treatment plan. Always ask for all of the options so that you are prepared to know when to continue treatment or when to stop and refocus your efforts.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I had an HSG (dye in the uterus and tubes) to make sure that my uterus was ok and tubes were open. I had multiple ovarian ultrasounds during different stages of my cycle to see how the eggs matured over time. I had a saline ultrasound so that they could view my uterus when expanded to be sure I did not have any uterine fibroids or polyps. I had already been under another doctor's care and on Clomid, so Dr. Park piggy-backed off of that treatment and suggested other fertility medications. During each cycle, I had multiple visits to check on various things during the month. Each time I had an ovarian ultrasound, it was found that I did not have any mature eggs. Dr. Park recommended using an Ovidrell shot if there were any mature ones to get an egg to release. Unfortunately, I never had a mature one. I had several blood tests - DNA testing, Thyroid Testing, Hormone Level Testing, etc. After several tests, I was formally diagnosed with PCOS. After several rounds of fertility medication, I was still not ovulating. My uterus lining was too thin (thanks to years of rounds of fertility medications that were ineffective) to do IVF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
Approximately $3,000 from our pocket. The rest was covered by insurance.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Carolina Conceptions has very friendly office staff and it is a very comfortable clinic to visit. They are also very flexible with appointment times, which is great considering you are visiting the clinic very frequently during treatment cycles.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer is a very knowledgeable doctor. He takes the time to really answer your questions, whether during an appointment or through email. He made it very clear to us that we had poor chances of being successful with IUI. When we decided we wanted to try that route first, he took an aggressive approach which I appreciated. I know a few folks personally who had success with Carolina Conceptions, so it brings me hope. I would recommend this practice.

What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Bring in a list of questions to ask and take notes! Dr. Meyer is very knowledgeable and you may leave with your head spinning because of all the information!
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We were diagnosed solely with male factor infertility. Dr. Meyer said we were candidates of IUI because the MFI is mild enough, but he made it clear to us that our chances of success were low. To take a more aggressive approach and to increase out chances as much as possible, Dr. Meyer prescribed me injectables (follistim) to prepare for our IUI. Injectables give you the best chances if you're dealing with MFI. We've had two unsuccessful IUIs so far, and will try one more (because we have 3 covered under our insurance) before moving to IVF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
So far our treatments have been covered under our insurance policy, so we have only been responsible for our co-pay.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer remembered my husband's and my occupations. He always talked with us candidly and honestly. He listed to everything I said and answered all of the questions that I had. He is very easy to talk to and has a fantastic personality.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses were very knowledgeable in the treatments and when taking ultrasound scans. They were very nice, friendly, and approachable. Every time I called, they called me back within a reasonable time frame and had all of my questions answered.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer is practical, knows exactly what to do, and how to change treatment when necessary. He is very direct, but is very nice about it at the same time. He does not waste time. He answers emails quickly and he has even called me to check on what decisions were made with nurses based on the injections that would be cheaper for me.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Don't be afraid to ask questions in person or via email. Dr. Meyer is very approachable.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I started Femara the day I came for my first appointment with Dr. Meyer because at my ob-gyn I used two cycles of Clomid that did not work. Femara did not work, and I waited until I started my period to begin injections. On day 3 of my next cycle I started 75 IU of Gonal F. After 4 days of injections (5/25-5/28) I had to stop them because I also had an HSG. Through the HSG I found out that I had an arcuate uterus and a strange spot on the right side of my uterus. I had surgery on 6/6. Dr. Meyer operated and the strange spot was just tissue, and he "fixed" my arcuate uterus. Everything went very well and I took Provera to finish the cycle. With the next cycle, (on 6/25) I started the same injections: 75 IU of Gonal F for 6 days, then two days of 75 IU of Gonal F plus 0.25 mg Cetrotide; the following day I used Ovidrel, and 36 hours later timed intercourse. My follicles after 4 days of Gonal F were a proper size, and that is why I continued with Gonal F. After 3 more days of Gonal F (plus one day of Cetrotide) one of my follicles was mature, and another one was close. Dr. Meyer told me to do one more day of Gonal F + Cetrotide to have the 2nd follicle get to the right size. Two days after intercourse I started Progesterone, and 16 days after the Ovidrel shot I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Office visits, ultrasounds, surgery (hysteroscopy), HSG, blood tests, Gonal F class. The prescription pills, injections, and progesterone suppositories were purchased outside of the clinic.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Carolina Conceptions treats you like family the moment you walk in the door. The staff works efficiently, which minimizes wait time. Everyone on staff is very knowledgeable in their field of expertise.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
The entire staff at Carolina Conceptions treated us like family from our very first appointment while still working in an efficient manner. Dr. Meyer was there for us every step of the way to answer any questions that we may have had (despite the time of day).

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
We loved having Dr. Meyer as our doctor. In our initial meeting, he was very straight forward with us and listened to our past experiences/future concerns. Dr. Meyer worked with us and tried to help us out with medications/samples if he could. He was there for us whenever we had questions. My husband and I would not change our experience for anything in the world.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Just listen and have faith :)
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My husband and I completed a fresh IVF cycle. Immediately following our initial visit, I started an Ovasitol supplement twice a day. Dr. Meyer prescribed Menopur and Gonal-F to stimulate my ovaries/produce as many quality eggs as possible. Lupron along with HCG to trigger for retrieval. Progesterone injections started soon after the transfer and have continued during the first few weeks of pregnancy.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
As a teacher, I received half-off an IVF cycle. Some ultrasounds and labwork were extra, but didn't break the bank. The pharmacy they recommended also worked with another pharmacy to reduce the cost of my medications.

I always saw a different doctor or a nurse with every visit. It was hard to develop rapport when you are always being shuffled from one physician to the next. As intimate, private and personal as this process is consistency would be ideal.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Very friendly, good bedside manner, explained procedures and expectations well.
How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was nice and very informative. He had good bedside manner. We just only saw him twice during our entire fertility treatment process. It made developing a physician/patient relationship very difficult. It is hard to provide candid feedback with such limited interaction.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Don't expect the procedures to be done by a physician. We had a certified medical assistant perform our very first IUI! Not even a certified nurse in the field of infertility.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Prior to starting our first round of IUI, my wife and I had lab work done in order to determine the best candidate to have the procedure and treatments. I then completed an HSG to determine any uterine, fallopian or ovarian issues. This was negative. I went in on day 1-3 of my cycle and had a baseline ultrasound. I was given a prescription for Letrozole 10mg daily x 5 days with 3 refills (Carolina Conceptions does 3 rounds of IUI prior to IVF treatment). On day 12, I went back in for another ultrasound to see how many follicles were mature and if ovulation was imminent. After mature follicles were observed, I was given another prescription for Ovidrel 250 mcg (also with 3 refills) to be given 36 hours prior to procedure. Within 48-72 hours after the day 12 ultrasound we went back in for the IUI. Waited 14 days until a pregnancy test could be done. If pregnancy test was negative we started the same process all over again. If positive, we called the clinic and set up an appointment for confirmation blood work.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
It was a 70.00 co-pay for our initial consultation 70.00 co-pay for HSG Baseline Ultrasound on day one of cycle 250.00 (BCBS insurance does not cover) (x 2 attempts) Prescription for Letrozole 12.00 co-pay monthly (with 2 refills used) Prescription for Ovidrel 173.00 (BCBS insurance does not cover) (with 2 refills used) Second ultrasound 250.00 x 2 attempts IUI 468.00 x 2 attempts Confirmation blood tests x 2 separate draws (FREE) First OB ultrasound 70.00 co-pay Second OB ultrasound 70.00 co-pay

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman made sure that my husband and I understood all of our options and took time to explain things to us that we were concerned about. She was very friendly and has a great bedside manner. She also gave us realistic expectations.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I saw Jessalyn James frequently and she was always so kind and helpful. She did a lot of my ultrasounds and called me frequently with lab results. She also did our IVF class. I also saw Michelle and Tammy frequently. They did some of my ultrasounds and I believe Tammy did two of my IUIs. Both Tammy and Michelle were very nice and helpful as well. All of these nurses were very quick to responded to voice messages I left and I always got a call back the same day or early the next day.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman seems to be very experienced in her field. I felt like I could trust her and her opinion and expertise. She tried every option to help us get pregnant before even suggesting IVF, which was our last option. I felt like she understood that IVF was a huge undertaking on us financially, mentally and physically and I appreciate that she took this into consideration. I never felt rushed by her and she always took time to explain things to me.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Make sure you listen to what she has to say and consider her experience and expertise because she knows what she is doing.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We first started with oral fertility meds which did not work. I don't have a period on my own so this caused complications with me ovulating. I did three cycles of IUI. The first cycle included Menopur. I personally don't think this cycle worked at all because I don't even think I got my period after it. The second cycle included Menopur, but with higher dosages. My egg growth was very slow with this cycle, but implantation did not occur. The third and final IUI included Follistim. With this medication, the cycle seemed to go perfect. My eggs responded quickly and as they should have, but I didn't get pregnant. I then had IVF which consisted of Gonal-F and Menopur. My eggs were very slow growing with this cycle, but eventually they were able to retrieve 11 eggs.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
My insurance covered all three of my IUIs, so I only had to pay for office co-pays and medication co-pays. I ended up having IVF, so overall we spent around $22,000.

Strengths [of Carolina Conceptions] are how well the three doctors work together - if you have a procedure on the weekend you won't always get your doctor - but they all know my case and they have been good about carrying across the standard of care. My main gripe is the wait to get an appointment if you are outside a cycle - though I do know that the doctors time is stretched thin. I am just impatient.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman always answers my questions immediately by email - and often calls - especially if I am upset or have a concern. I always feel like she is in my corner.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nursing staff is great - especially the phlebotomists and the ones who do the baseline scans. Very kind, they all remember my name and are aware of where I am in my cycle.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
I am an extreme case - I have poor egg quality and my husbands MFI is severe. After my first cycle failed (my embryos failed to develop) - Dr. Couchman met with the other doctors to come up with a game plan for my situation. My protocol was completely changed. My second cycle was completely different - my poor eggs made blasts and I was able to biopsy for PGS. Awaiting my first transfer now! She met with me to go over my fears about the FET failing and has been kind during this difficult process.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
She is an excellent listener - though I don't know how she'd do with someone who was super emotional - I'm very pragmatic and it is easy to talk straight with her.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My first cycle was antagonist with menopur and follistim - my AMH is very good for my age and I responded great 16 eggs - but the quality was awful everything dead by day 3. For my second cycle, I primed with testosterone patches - used more menopur than last time and used HGH - my eggs still looked ugly to the embryologist but they made blasts - putting a PGS normal back next month!

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer treated me and my husband with nothing but respect. He answered all of our questions during our visits to the clinic and also via phone.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I had to call them couple of times during the treatment since i was experiencing some migraine pains, and they got back to me immediately with how to handle my situation and proceed.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer does not go around the corners, he tells you exactly like it is, and he answers each questions fully, with complete information. He is very positive in his attitude. He never made me think that getting pregnant was not possible, he simple saw this as a longer than the expected road we have to take and that's it. I felt like i was in really good hands.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and voice your concerns. They are used to all kinds of questions and they are there to help.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Meyer showed me and my husband the road map. Fist we started with the tests we needed to take to make sure we get the full picture on my health, as well as my husbands health. When those came OK for both, we set up a course of action. Dr. Meyer advised we start with the hormone therapy. He gave us full directions of how to take it, and what is the next step in case the therapy does not work for us.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Some costs were covered by my insurance, some not, but the office staff was good in explaining those.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
I have always had a good experience with Carolina Conceptions.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr Couchman has always taken her time with me and my husband. She has always been very easy to talk to.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I really like the nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions. Some are friendlier than others. But that will be anywhere you go.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
From the very beginning we have found it easy to talk with Dr Couchman. Going through this process has been mentally exhausting. Dr Couchman has sat and talked with us numerous times and I have never felt rushed or like we were just another patient. I feel like she has a very realistic professional opinion. She doesnt sugarcoat anything but she still has comforting way of talking with you.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
You won't always see Dr Couchman at every visit. I wasn't used to this at first. But I do feel comfortable with everyone in the practice.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We first tried medication (I don't remember what we used) and did timed intercourse. After the negative pregnancy test we decided to do an IUI. We did two IUI's that both resulted in a negative pregnancy test. We tried a third IUI but I had no follicles that time. She told us to proceed with timed intercourse. That ended with a negative pregnancy test. We took some time off after that. We came back and decided to try IVF. We had 9 follicles. From there we had 4 embryos. By day 5 we only had 2 embryos and they were not as developed as they hoped, but still growing. So we transferred 2. We got a negative pregnancy test.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
Insurance paid for up to three IUI's. We had to pay out of pocket for IVF.

The clinic [Carolina Conceptions] is well kept, with a smooth check in and check out process.... We felt an updated AMH test before our injectable cycle may have saved us that medication expense since the medication had no effect. We did have some conflicting cost and insurance coverage limits early in our financial consultation. In the end, we came out better than we were originally informed but there was some confusion.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Park was calming and optimistic while gathering details about our situation. He called us directly after we had not been in for an office visit for several weeks, taking a genuine interest in our situation from the beginning. When results came back undesirable he was frank, but empathetic, in laying out the next options available and a path forward.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses were capable and completed their tasks as expected.

How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was knowledgeable and optimistic in his approach, often questioning and seemingly perplexed by many of the choices made by our previous clinic. We left our initial consultation with a feeling of hope that we had begun to lose from our time with our previous care provider. Dr. Park provided us with a plan of action and, after our initial results were less than desired, calmly moved us forward with our available options offering counseling and support along the way.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Come prepared with your list of questions and remain open to your possibilities. Dr. Park was very helpful in navigating test results and data pertaining to your situation and options.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Park recommended injectable hormones to stimulate egg production. Since we were recently pregnant through natural means the theory was to increase egg production in hopes of gathering a few eggs of higher quality. The injectables had little to no effect and, unfortunately, forced us to move on to alternative plans of treatment which we are engaged in currently.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
$70 - $80 Insurance co-pays for office visits. $1065 Injectable cycle medications. $31 nurse monitoring visits.

Dr Meyer was very personable. I have never had a Dr call or email me just to check on me. If I had any questions, all i had to do was send him an email and I always had a quick response.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
All the nurses were friendly and knowledgeable. When I left a message on the nurses line, I always received a timely return call with all the information I needed.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
From my very first visit for my consultation with Dr Meyer, I felt like he truly cared about me and our situation. I needed to have a hysteroscopy which my insurance wouldn't cover thru the clinic. He referred me to a Dr that my insurance would cover and then agreed to come observe during my procedure. He always went above and beyond to make sure we knew/ understood what was happening. He was easily accessible whenever we had questions or concerns.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Take advantage of his knowledge. Don't leave his office without asking every question you may have...he is one Dr that does not mind being questioned.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
For my ER, I started with Lupron, 75mg Menopur and 150mg Gonal F. When my body didn't respond as well as expected, he increased the dosages to 225mg Gonal F. I ended up with 6 mature follicles and 5 mature eggs. For my FET I was taking a blood thinner to help improve blood flow to my uterus, vitamin D and E through the entire prep. I started on 6mg of Estradiol orally but my lining wasn't getting thick enough so it was changed to 4 mg estradiol orally, 2mg estradiol vaginally and 2 estrogen patches and 10mg Progesterone.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.

Dr. Couchman always took the time to sit with us and explain every relevant detail to us concerning our situation. She offered honest advice and spoke to us like intelligent human beings.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
They were very informative and helpful and instructed my wife on how to administer the injections that she was to take.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
My wife and I feel that Dr. Couchman is very knowledgeable and compassionate. We have tried to get pregnant several times over 2 years under the direction of a previous doctor. When he transferred us to Dr. Couchman's care, she suggested that we try a very regimented timed intercourse treatment. Unfortunately, our attempt was unsuccessful yet again. We had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Couchman to discuss next steps. She suggested trying IUI at least once or twice, but we feel like so much time has been lost and want to go straight for the IVF since the odds of success are much higher. Additionally, we can't really afford to keep trying different techniques with the odds of success being so low and that's why we want to pursue IVF. She was completely understanding of our needs and frustrations and gave us all the information we needed. We are hoping to schedule it for sometime this summer.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Listen carefully and don't be afraid to ask questions until you fully understand everything you need to know. There will be a lot of information and different factors to consider.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My wife and I underwent a timed intercourse treatment in which she had to take prenatal vitamins. We then had to go in for an ultrasound followed by Letrozole tablets for several days. After that I had to administer Follistim injections for 3 consecutive days. Then, we had to go back in for another ultrasound. We were then instructed to begin taking Ganirelix. Lastly we had to begin the progesterone suppositories nightly until we became pregnant.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
If I remember correctly, the total cost of the timed intercourse treatment package was around $500.

He has a wonderful bedside manner while being upfront and honest about my situation. He made feel very comfortable every time I came in leading up to my procedure and was very positive even while being honest about my chances of conceiving.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Michele was my donor egg coordinator and was always there to answer questions and go above and beyond to help me when I needed it. She is a great nurse and very compassionate.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
I like Dr. Meyers energy and I felt he was very sincere. He was upfront and honest when I asked questions and was honest with me that he did not know why I wasn't able to conceive either time we did my transfer. He was willing to do bloodwork I requested just to be sure I didn't have any issues that would normally not be looked at until multiple miscarriages. My husband also met Dr. Meyer and had a great experience with him as well. Overall I would highly recommend Dr. Meyer to both friends and family.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Ask for what you want and don't be afraid to question things. He is open and honest and did not bs me which was very much appreciated.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Because I was using donor egg and only doing FETs we didn't really have treatment strategies. We did do a lot of bloodwork after the first failed attempt and did another saline ultrasound just to make sure their were no issues that may be going on.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Costs are reasonable here. They are on par and maybe somewhat below the national average. The out of pocket expense for me for bloodwork and ultrasounds were a pain since they would not file my insurance.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
I feel like Dr. Meyer was very caring and compassionate. I felt he was very thorough in his explanations and plan for my care. I fully trust him with my care. I do feel as if the communication between him and his partners, as well as other staff, was lacking. I found out during my first pelvic ultrasound that I had a uterine fibroid that required myomectomy. This changed my course of treatment in which we had planned. Upon talking to Dr. Meyer's partner and some other staff in the office they continued to tell me that we were on the same original plan and I had to keep telling them that there had been changes. His partner performed my egg retrieval and she didn't even measure the fibroid or have answers to my questions about our plan post op. I felt as if the communication could have been better so those involved in my care we're updated on what was going on.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Expect the unexpected and make sure you are always on top of what's going on
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
To prepare for egg retrieval I was placed on 3 injection medication. 20 units of lurpon twice daily, 1 vial of menopur twice daily and 225 IU of gonal f twice daily. I was told these were the highest doses I could take, I was on high doses for low AMH level. For after the egg retrieval I was placed on an z pack antibiotic for 6 days, a steroid twice a day for 5 days and estrogen until further notice.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
We paid $10,365 which includes egg aspiration, ultrasound guidance, egg identification, sperm wash, egg insemination, culture of eggs, embryo prep for transfer, embryo glue, transfer, nitrogen. Also this costs covered our nursing class to be taught about injections, cryopreservaton, anesthesia and a cycle management fee to cover us being monitored by another practice, as we love out of town. The injection drugs that were needed costs right around $8,000. We paid anywhere from $150-$300 per visit for lab work and ultrasound to monitor follicles. We had 5-6 visits for lab work and ultrasound.

The clinic is always on time, which is only a bad thing if you are the patient which has to be rushed. The front desk staff and financial staff seemed to remember me more than the nurses or doctor.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I was never pressured into or out of a treatment plan.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Strengths: Kind, friendly Weakness: Rushed, not always organized - Once, I had an entire monitoring visit completed when the nurse realized that she was looking at someone else's chart. She was not looking for the correct things and had to redo the ultrasound. Also, one of the nurses expressed her disapproval of me going through the IVF process with no intensions of marrying my boyfriend.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer was always positive. I remember my first visit where he told me that I should not have any problems conceiving with the first treatment, which was great...until I did. I saw him cycle after cycle over a year's time. The positivity gave me false hope, especially when he did not thoroughly read my chart/history before the appointment. Several times I had to wait and watch him skim through the chart. It may have been more appropriate to do so prior to walking into the appointment. I still wonder if the course of treatment would have changed if he had been more informed about my history.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Ask questions.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
It has been a while since my last treatment and well over a year since I started. I am unsure of my diagnosis, but it was believe that I do not ovulate on a regular basis. My GYN believed that I suffered from PCOS, but Dr. Meyer never talked about that. I was considered young at 30. We started with oral medication to stimulate my ovaries (timed intercourse method). Many follicles were produced but they were very little. We moved to stronger injectable medicine (follistim/gonal f) that would do the same thing in a bigger way. I consistently produced one to two follicles that were the appropriate size for a trigger shot to release them in time for intercourse. However to this day, I still feel like those one to two follicles were actually cysts. I always have a few cysts, but the nurses could not distinguish them from actual follicles once they grew to a certain size. After multiple cycles, we decided on IVF. The same injectable stimulating medicines were used but at a higher dosage prior to egg retrieval. We froze seven embryos, described to us as good quality. We felt pressured by the staff to only transfer one embryo, so we did. It failed.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
My initial treatments were covered by insurance, so several copays of $40. Insurance would not cover any IUI or IVF. I did not try IUI. For single IVF, I believe that I paid $14,000 not including monitoring or prescriptions. Monitoring was $300-$400 per visit and I remember having 4 visits. Medication was probably around $5,000.

We tried IUI first [at Carolina Conceptions] then moved to IVF (which is where we are currently). My husband had a low sperm count which involved us working to increase his count majority of 2016. From there we tried one attempt at IUI which was unsuccessful. I received advice from Dr Meyer and friends to move forward with IVF if our budget allowed. After 3 years of trying to start a family, I had hit my limit of seeing negative pregnancy test.

Dr Meyer is extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. When I, or my husband, have questions he is quick to respond via email and extremely patient when in person. I appreciate his honesty and candidness.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Extremely helpful
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Extremely positive experience! He shared all options with us and continues to support us through this process. We have been working with Dr Meyer directly for almost 2 years. This process has been longer due to personal obstacles vs anything directly with CC. Dr Meyer has been an amazing support system and doctor for us both.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Dr Meyer is great at what he does! If you want someone to hold your hand, cry with you, and "baby step" you through this process, he is not your man. If you want honesty, candidness and to get the end results you will not be disappointed with Dr Meyer! I came in to CC looking for an action plan to start my family and Dr Meyer is helping us lay out the process! :)

Dr Meyer was extremely helpful in laying out the expectations and process. I have faith we are in the best hands and that along with much prayer and Dr Meyer we will be pregnant by the end of 2017.

one on one consult, started early, talked to us eye to eye, then reviewed records in our presence, would not move forward until our questions were answered, explained how some women initially reject egg recipiency but then accept after seeing the egg donors, talking to other patients etc

strengths are candid, uses statistics, takes into account our emotions, my husband and my difference in accepting egg donation. available via email. great sense of humor weaknesses were mainly that he kept things moving, not much down time, not a lot of hand holding but still was emotionally supportive
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
you will get the benefits of someone who has worked in a university setting and for the last ten years in private setting . Don't be overly sensitive. He will make you feel at home and usually will joke with you about his idiosyncrancies but also yours
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Straight forward egg recipiency, used the refund program, transferred one embryo. offered embryo biopsy but we declined. What was different? Saw photos of egg donors, received every other day progress reports on how the donor was responding, how many eggs were retrieved and how many were fertilized. We ended putting up our extra embryos for adoption at Carolina Conceptions

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
We started at CC as out first clinic with Dr Park. Our insurance was crap and covered only medication for timed transfers and anything oral. We felt pushed at that time to do an IVF which financially and mentally we were not able to do. We inquired about IUI and we're basically told they would be pointless. Feeling as though we were not being addressed with our concern of maximizing our insurance, we switched clinics and Dr's. In hindsite Dr Park was right but we didn't feel the love so to speak
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
We saw Dr Meyer as a consultation and second opinion. We had no desire or money to move forward with another IVF as we had done 2 at another facility. Dr Meyer understood our situation and helped us plan different things we could try. Essentially he said "let's start over at square 1" we truly enjoyed him and he was a breath of fresh air to us in our journey. We did end up doing an IVF with his clinic and sucessfully had twin girls
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Nursing staff was always friendly

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr Meyer is very easy to talk to. He likes to get down to the depth of the problem. He was a problem solver. He was not just focused on me but he also focused on my husband. He offered us infomation, medication, and treatments that we had not been offered in our previous 8 years of treatments. He wasn't concerned about his numbers meaning he wasn't focused on only doing what he thought would get us pregnant. He wanted to maximize our insurance coverage (which didn't include IUI or IVF ) knowing we were not financially able to do another IVF as we had done 2 previous with another clinic in addition to multiple IUI with that clinic that were UNSUCCESSFUL. Dr Meyer was our breath of fresh air he restored our trust in an RE and we would HIGHLY recommend him.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Go prepared with what your treatment goals are and an open mind
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We doubled my Menopur in addition to the Gonal F. I don't remember dosages. He did a saline transfer before actual embryo transfer, which had never been done before. The transfer took place in a sterile environment not an office room like previous clinic. I asked him if he had any cronin (progesterone for insertion)that he could give me after transfer, which he gladly did at no additional charge. He was always very personable and pleasant. All of the clinic Dr were visable during visits

The front desk receptionists are always quick to help however they are able. The female receptionist knows my name when I walk in the door. She is always polite and super sweet.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She seems to know me and be familiar with my medical history. She made recommendations based on that.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I've mostly seen nurses to check follicles, so there isn't a whole lot to share. They are knowledgeable and if they have questions, they consult the doctor. I've been pleased thus far.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman has been great. I've sat in her office in her office for several consultations. She has been patient and understanding as we have asked questions and made decisions. Dr. Couchman has made sure that we are well informed. I've never felt dumb asking her questions. She has taught as much as she has supported. While she has recommended specific treatment, she has never been pushy. She has allowed us to walk through this journey at our own pace. I am so appreciate of the care she has provided.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman is not always warm and fuzzy, but that doesn't mean she doesn't care. She shows that she cares through her knowledge and supportive nature.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Couchman has pretty much let us dictate what we want to do. At this point we've only tried medicated IUIs with injectable medications. One cycle I produced a high number of follicles, so she suggest that we use a lower dosage of Follistim for the next round. We are thinking about starting and IVF cycle in the summer and she has been very upfront with the fact that we may not need a lot of medication because I tend to respond well to lower doses.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
I honestly cannot remember. Some of our IUIs were covered under insurance, and some were not. We were offered a special rate for IVF because they consider me to be a "service worker."

She was very kind and I felt comfortable talking with her.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
They were helpful and responsive to my callstop and questions.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman was patient and good listener. I have PCOS and was over responsive to the injections, which led to canceling a planned IUI. At that point, I felt my affordable options were over. I did some research on my own and found out about ovarian drilling (laparoscopy and covered by my insurance). After speaking with Dr. Couchman, I learned it was a procedure she could perform. I only wish she had presented that as an option to me, as opposed to me spending countless hours searching for where to go next, considering I could not afford IVF.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Have a good understanding of all treatment options and talk with her about them.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Couchman was conservative in her approach because of my PCOS. She didn't want to overstimulate my ovaries and called off a planned IUI due to 2 eggs that were close to 17mm and 2 that a were around 14/15. I did not like that decision, but appreciated the precaution she took. Also, after the laporascopic surgery (ovarian drilling), she only prescribed letrozol and did not put me on the injections. I didn't agree with that either, but I did conceive. Although it resulted in a miscarriage at 17 weeks. I do wish she had been aggressive in her precaution before releasing me to a regular OBGYN, as I think I should have been under the care of a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist considering my medical history.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
Cost incurred for co-pay visits, ultrasounds, medications, surgical procedure, and IUI.

Any time I contact Dr. Meyer he was quick to respond. He would then put me in contact with who in the office I needed to speak with in order to start my next process. When speaking with him in the office he always gave me his undivided attention. His main goal is to get me pregnant and I have confidence he will succeed.

The nurse staff is very nice and knowledgeable. The answered all questions you had at the time of the appointment, If they had any questions they would take to a Doctor right away. I felt very comfortable with each nurse I saw.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
I have only been a patient of Dr. Meyer for a year now. I have not had success with getting pregnant yet but I hope we are on the right track to do so. We have goals and testing that I need to complete with my next cycle. I have full trust in Dr. Meyer and any other Dr in this practice, since I have spoken with each of them. This process is not cheap so being in the right hands is very crucial.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Make sure you get that one on one time with him at the beginning and go with any questions you might have about now and future procedures. Game plan if you want to call it. Also don't be afraid to email him if you have questions or do not understand something. I find email is one of the best ways to get a quick response. He will answer any questions you have or point you to his staff to help fulfill your need or to start the next process with whatever he suggest.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
So far I have only been through 3 failed timed intercourse with medication (shots). I would go in for ultrasounds almost every 3 days. Depending on what part of my cycle would depend on if I saw Dr Meyer, a nurse, or another Dr if Dr. Meyer was unavailable. They guided me each step of the way through the cycle. Even though I have had 3 failed cycles with timed intercourse I am ready for the next plan of action. Next will be the HSG testing to make sure my tubes are open. We will see where this goes
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
As of right now my insurance helped with the last 3 cycles, so i paid my copay. My future procedures will be out of pocket so it will be expensive. I will have to do a little at a time, or take out a loan for a full cycle. I have not gotten to the point of figuring it out yet.

I have PCOS and Dr. Couchman and the other physicians at Carolina Conceptions were the first doctors to listen to my concerns and have a collaborative relationship with me and my husband to meet my goals without judgement or pressure.... I had went to quite a few other clinics/doctors looking for medical advice and help before going to Carolina Conceptions. To be honest all the other clinics told me not to worry about my fertility despite being diagnosed with PCOS at 18, the reason being I have atypical PCOS and don't present typically. So most doctors insist I can't have it and since we are both 29 they felt we were too young to worry about fertility treatment.

We were faced with two choices: have my husband have surgery to correct his verbosities and wait 9-12 months to find out if it corrected his sperm count enough to resume trying IUIs or proceed with IVF. She clearly explained the options and advised us to proceed with the surgery option and if that didn't work return to IVF. Well, we are extremely greatful for following her medical advice because my husbands count when from 10,000 to 75,000 in 3 months post surgery and we were able to conceive with me taking fermara/clomid. But dr. Couchman invegstated all my symptoms and diagnosed me while keeping in mind the financial and emotional toll of fertility treatment. Finally, to be completely honest Dr. Couchman is the first Doctor I have seen that made me feel like a human with a medical problem and not a mystery of science. I can't say enough good things about Carolina Conceptions and all the doctors and staff there, without them my babies life wouldn't be possible.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Be completely honest with your doctor and commit yourself 100% to the treatment approach you choose.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
I had a blue cross pop plan that covered all tx that was not ART and it covered all testing.

We loved working with everyone at Carolina Conceptions. If Dr. Meyer was unavailable we saw Dr. Park or Dr. Couchman and found them to be equally wonderful. The embryologists were knowledgeable and provided detailed information to us as well. The front office staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and were always welcoming both on the phone and in person. Everyone you interacted with treated you like you were the most important patient and were genuinely happy and excited for us when we became pregnant.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer took the time to meet with us and get to know us. He was kind, patient, and willing to spend the time to answer as many questions as we had. He was able to share in our joy and sympathize with our pain.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I can't say enough great things about the nursing staff. They were friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable. They understood that IVF was a difficult and emotional process and did everything they could to make the process better.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer was incredibly knowledgeable about the IVF process and took the time to get to know my husband and I. He explained the process and adjustments very clearly and provided his email to us to ask any questions as they came up. He had a wonderful bedside manner and always made us feel comfortable. I appreciated his willingness to discuss our case with his colleagues after our first transfer was unsuccessful and didn't go as planned or as the data would have suggested it should. He made appropriate adjustments and was candid in his discussions with my husband and I.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Don't hesitate to ask questions because Dr. Meyer will definitely lay everything out for you to understand.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Meyer recommended we use daily shots as well as oral pills. He upped dosages and added in human growth hormone as an adjustment after the first transfer was unsuccessful.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
We paid roughly $12,00 - $14,000 for an IVF Cycle

it was nice that they always knew my name and would speak to me in the halls even if I wasn't seeing him that particular day. The only thing I wished would have been different is on the time they cancelled my cycle I didn't get a call to explain just a general email and no follow up call or response to my email.

I enjoyed him he was relatable and very good at answering my husbands concerns and questions during our visits I just didn't see him for all of them. He was very friendly and remember me by name whenever I was there even seeing another doctor other than him which I appreciated. I just wish I would have gotten a phone call instead of random email when my one cycle was cancelled
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
tell him if you prefer calls and not emails
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I wanted to start off slow because of medical history we did clomid but I didn't like the side effects. We then did injectables with time conception and then injections with IUI several cycles, I OHSS one of them and had to get IVs and saw the other dr and nurses for that. Dr meyer only did one of my IUI and was very nice but I wish I had more calls or follow up to make me understand why I needed to cancel one of my cycles when I had OHSS previously and was allowed to continue. I later went on to IVF after my IUIs didn't work and am now 8 months pregnant with our first child and hope to someday have another:)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
during IVF no bloodwork was covered which I wish I knew before, I still would have done it but it would have been nice to expect the price of 200-300 each visit for those 10 days.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer showed compassion and understood my issues. He was able to give me multiple options for treatment. He was blunt, and to the point. I prefer my doctors to be that way. I am a nurse, and I understand a lot of medical lingo- and he talked to me like a nurse, and I appreciated that. He said whenever my husband and I are ready, he is ready to start the IVF process. Explained risks and complications. He reviewed charts and clinical information and statistics with me.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
"You better be ready!"
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
After my first appointment, we tried pills, injections, and multiple ultrasounds. It failed. I was very discouraged. I then made an appointment with Dr. Meyer when we were ready again- this time, he offered IVF. It sounds great, if we had finances to cover it... We are trying to figure out how we can afford it, and afford caring for a baby after! It is discouraging, but I know some how, it will happen.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
With insurance, out of pocket cost for a consultation visit was $130. I was there less than 1 hour. I spoke with the financial director, and she stated my insurance will cover a majority of the IVF procedure, but there would not be enough to cover medications necessary for IVF. Out of pocket cost for the procedure will be a little over $3,000; and another approximate $7,000-$10,000 for medication cost.

The staffs at this clinic were very professional.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Grace Couchman is a great human being. She listens to you, makes eye contact, makes one feel like they are important and their issue is important to her. She explains the situations and assures one understands what is going on. She never hesitates to help her patients even when she is on vacation. She understands people have another life and does not give them false hopes and makes sure they have a good relationship with their partner. She makes a doctor & patient conversation so easy and without any stress. She is such a down to earth person that anyone fells comfortable talking to her and discussing private issues. I was so happy to see her and work with her during the fertility trials.

I would tell any prospective patient to feel as comfortable as they can when they meet and discuss their issues with Grace Couchman. She is trustworthy and handles any situation greatly. She is going to be the best fertility doctor anyone can have.

I had coverage with my insurance for medications and basic treatments. I don't remember how much but I was only responsible for the co-pay. However, my partner and I would not be able to do IVF or more aggressive treatments as the cost would be out of our budget.

The strengths of Carolina Conceptions is the front desk staff always greet you with a smile, good morning or hello. They got to know me so well that I actually received hugs from them. They always answered the phones, but sometimes you were put on hold. They had been getting pretty full with appointments and were getting backed up about 2 months, but they have rectified that with hiring a fourth doctor. One weakness I have to admit was with the finance department. They do not present you with all of the options available (discounted rates for law enforcement, split financing with another couple if using egg donor, etc.). You do have to find out by asking yourself or by another patient to know what they completely offer. However, they do allow third party financing which is a plus.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Park was very personable with me and explained every step and factor in great detail. He was kind and considerate when discussing all of the procedures and processes with me and thoroughly answered all of my questions. I could not have been happier or more grateful with his bedside manner. He was also very honest with me and we both believe I still have a good egg remaining, it is just a matter of how many cycles does it take to find the good egg. Dr. Park's protocol recommendation was the most successful yet as far as egg production and retrieval. I highly recommend the expertise Dr. Park offers to any patient experiencing any fertility issues because he is not only highly knowledgeable, but has an exceptional demeanor when it comes to patient relations. He is so kind and considerate and explains the costs and procedures very thoroughly. Dr. Park comes highly recommended. He is simply awesome!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions is phenomenal. They walk and talk you through each phase and are always welcoming phone calls or emails. They always ask about your day, always smile, and always make you feel like they are rooting for success with our fertility endeavors. They also go the extra mile to answer any questions I may have and they are not afraid to step away if need be and get the doctor. They have all called me back expeditiously and always leave me feeling like they are cheering me and my eggs on. I could not be happier with the nursing staff.
How was your experience with John Park?
My experience with Dr. Park could not have been any better as far as doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Park was very easy to talk and such a great listener. When my husband and I decided to try IVF, Dr. Park's schedule was booked for two months out. I called his office to see about them working me in and the secretary was adamant that Dr. Park just could not squeeze me in for two more months. Due to my AMH level dropping rapidly, I emailed Dr. Park and told him what my husband and I were wanting to do and he remembered my situation. He immediately called me upon receiving me email and had the front desk staff work me in that week and were able to begin the IVF process right away! Unfortunately, that particular cycle was unsuccessful, so Dr. Park discussed at length as to what was the medical reason for not achieving success and then explained other options, as well as stated he was willing for us to try IVF again as long as there was no financial burden. He believes there is still a mature egg left in me, we just have to find it. I told him I still had plenty of medicines left over except for 600 IUs of Follistim and Ovidrel. I also told him I had 8 vials of Ganarelix which we were not needing for IVF and he offered to swap the meds out for me with what he had in the clinic, so I didn't have to spend an additional $2000 out of pocket! I mean how many doctors would do that! He also got me scheduled again right away, so no time was wasted. Dr. Park has really gone above and beyond in helping my husband and I try to conceive one more time. I love Dr. Park and I have recommended him three times since I began this process. He is the true example of a caring physician who not only takes the time to listen to my needs and expectations, but he explain every step of the process before hand and as you are going through each step or phase. He will change his schedule on a moment's notice to accommodate your schedule and he helps save you money by exchanging meds with his patients when there is a financial burden and insurance does not help! I cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion of Dr. Park and how he truly makes me feel like a patient he cares for and wants me to have success and happiness. He never makes me feel rushed (our appointed times have ran over several times and he never rushes me out of his office to see his next patient) and he so patiently and politely listens to me with a strong ear. He does not treat his patients as numbers, he cares about them as people! Dr. Park is not only a very compassionate doctor, he is a true friend who offers every avenue known in the fertility world to his patients and "holds your hand" along the way. Unfortunately, in today's society, you don't find doctors with Dr. Park's demeanor and bedside manner as much. He is a rare find and a true gem! Thank you so much Dr. Park for being my doctor!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
I would recommend a patient be open and honest with Dr. Park from the financial burden to your expectations and really listen to what he has to say. He is so knowledgeable about every aspect of fertility and he will give you all the time you need to ask questions, make comments, and really explore all of your options. He is absolutely phenomenal and I think it would be hard to find anyone better!
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Park used an aggressive strategy on me due to my age and my AMH level dropping from 1.1 to 0.5 in a year. He ended up going with the Flare protocol to hopefully retrieve 5 to 8 eggs and it worked! He put me on birth control for 14 days once I got my period and then I began a testosterone patch for 5 days. I then started Lupron (morning and night) and HGH (night time only) for 12 days. The next day I started Menopur and Follistim both in the morning and night. I did this the first IVF cycle for 10 days and then Ovidrel on the night of the 10th day and then had my egg retrieval 36 hours later. The second cycle of IVF was exactly like the aforementioned regimen except we decided to go 12 day and then do the retrieval in hopes of giving my eggs more time to mature. Dr. Park wanted to be as aggressive as possible again because of my age and AMH levels. The first cycle produced 12 follicles and 12 eggs. Of the 12, 6 eggs were mature and all 6 fertilized. None of the embryos made it to day 5. The next cycle produced 12 follicles with only 10 eggs to retrieve and of those 10, 7 were mature and 6 fertilized. Again, none of the 6 embryos made it to day 5. Dr. Park stated if I choose to do IVF again, he will use the same aggressive protocol since I had such a good response as far as the number of eggs that were retrieved. He was very excited and shocked that we were able to retrieve that many eggs in each cycle due to age and AMH level. He did say that he has not seen such a good response in women a few years younger than me using the same protocol, so we were both happy with the results. My eggs were just bad eggs. That's why if I could try once more (with your generous monetary gift) to see if I can finally find that good egg, I would be so appreciative. I know the good Lord is going to answer our prayers and bless us one more time with a healthy and happy little one.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
I have BCBS and they do not cover any medications or procedures with Assisted Reproductive Technology. I was able to bank some of my medications when they were covered when we were doing timed intercourse, so that offset a lot of the cost. Carolina Conceptions offers a discount for law enforcement/firefighter personnel which is a big help, so I received a reduced rate from $10K to $7500K for the entire IVF procedure. The only additional out of pocket expense was the ultrasounds which where $300 each and you did 3 to 4 each cycle. They also offered financial assistance via CapEx, a fertility finance company who offers low interest loans for IVF.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I had severe OHSS twice after retrievals. We were terrified and Dr. Couchman took all our calls, emails and appointment requests immediately. She made us feel like we were her own family that she was caring for. Never once did I feel like she thought we were complaining or overreacting. She treated me twice with IV fluids at the clinic so that we could avoid the ER. When we finally got to our first ultrasound after the transfer, she was just as excited as we were to see our little one there, wiggling around! We would recommend her and the entire Carolina Conceptions Clinic to anyone trying to conceive!
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Michele was my main nurse coordinator. I was able to reach her daily via phone or secure email. This was excellent and comforting as we had so many questions and concerns, even after a positive pregnancy! If Michele was not available, I felt completely confident in speaking with any of the other nurses!
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman was extremely confident in our treatment plan and explained every step to us. I felt like we were all part of a team, not like there was some doctor-patient hierarchy and we just did whatever the doctor told us. There was always a clear explanation and we were given time to consider our next step. We never felt pressured or belittled- just part of a team!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Don't be afraid to ask questions- lots of them! Dr. Couchman is so willing to answer anything and help put you at ease!
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
After a failed IUI cycle due to OHSS, as a team, we decided IVF would be our only option. We closely monitored my injections, beginning slowly so as not to overstimulate. I was seen my Dr. Couchman or one of her colleagues each time I visited the office for monitoring, at Dr. Couchman's request. This was so we could be hyper-vigilant for OHSS. After the retrieval, 48 eggs were collected, 35 were inseminated, and we ended up with 17 embryos at 5 days. Needless to say, I had OHSS. Prior to the retrieval, I was given a Lupron injection to help with the OHSS. After the retrieval, Dr. Couchman required that I be out of work for at LEAST 2 weeks because I was so ill. My husband called almost everyday to check in with her and the nurses, and we were seen immediately several days for IV fluids. Prior to the retrieval, Dr. Couchman and her team strongly recommended that we do a freeze-all to make sure that my body recovered from the retrieval. We felt that we were given the best treatment plan, tailored to us.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
In total, including medication, we spent roughly $17,000.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
He is straightforward but gives you the information in an as kind as possible way. He followed up on all procedures and would verify and check everything prior to giving recommendations. Coming from another doctor he listened to each of my concerns and personally addressed each one giving recommendations and or corrections to the information. I love how quickly he worked with me and his concern with my family when surgery was required.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
I would say be prepared to not have sugar coated information. He presents all options to you and he is not pushy about which one to follow. He provides guidance.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Coming from other dr and voicing my concerns he completed an HSG. Discovered one tube had fluid and the other was blocked. Surgery was recommended. The surgery resulted in removal of both tubes due to the damage along with scar tissue. From the surgery he was able to see how large my fibriod was and recommended its removal as it was 7cm large. Once that surgery was completed and I had healed, Dr. Meyer recommended IVF as my partner and I wanted to try as my ovaries are still in good shape. We are currently waiting to start the process.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
For each visit I had a copay of 70 dollars. During the surgery my cost was 800 dollars. Our cost for the IVF treatment is to be around 8000 dollars, not including medicine.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr Bill is a very warm person, from the minute he sees you it's like you have know each other for years. A good example, the last time i had visited was about 2yrs before i was able to return back, when he saw me he greeted me very warmly and picked up the conversation from where we left off from the last treatment, it was like i had returned home, i felt very comfortable and happy. As compared to other places i have been to.

[Carolina Conceptions] Strengths: front staff is WONDERFUL, doctors know what they're doing, they are easily accessible. I think they are one of the more popular clinics in the area. Also the financial coordinators are always prepared, and are open and honest. Facility is nice. Weaknesses: can be difficult to see "your" doctor. I have seen Dr. Meyer and the nursing staff more than I've seen Dr. Couchman.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I have never felt like just a number with Dr. Couch man, or anyone else at Carolina Conceptions. She reviewed our prior medical records, recommended additional tests, and recommended a course of treatment.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The one nurse I saw the most often was just ok. She didn't have a very warm demeanor. Other nurses were better.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
We met with Dr. Couchman for an initial consultation, and she was very prepared. She had reviewed our records and made some additional testing recommendations, including some additional blood work and an HSG (we had already had some of the routine testing done - semen analysis, day 21 blood work). Since everything looked good, she recommended a couple trials of IUI. My insurance covered TIC, but not IUI, so we agreed to start with a few rounds of TIC. Those were not successful, so we're now trying IUI with Dr. Meyer. What I most appreciated was, she looked at both of us and assured us that we WOULD get pregnant. She couldn't promise when or how much money it would cost, but she was very confident that it would happen for us. We found this incredibly reassuring. A note: when you go for your baseline ultrasounds for TIC or IUI, and sometimes for your day 12 ultrasound, you will likely see a nurse. If a doctor is available, they may do it, but it can be tough to get your doctor. Truth be told, I have seen Dr. Meyer a lot more than I've seen Dr. Couchman. I think she is probably the more popular doctor, perhaps because women prefer women.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
She can be hard to get into, but the other doctors are great as well.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We are dealing with unexplained infertility. She recommended a couple rounds of IUI, but since my insurance covered TIC, we agreed to try that first.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
TIC was covered by my insurance, so just had to pay copays for appointments and ultrasounds. Switched to an HSA, so everything is out of pocket now. A visit with a doctor cost me $175. Ultrasounds are about $250, IUI is $500 day of. Total cost for IUI with oral meds is about $1000-$1500. Next month we're going to try IUI with injection medications, and I've been advised that the costs will be $2000-3000.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The strength was the welcoming environment and the clear display of medical knowledge amongst all staff at the practice. I am not sure there was a weakness that was eveident in my treatment from the clinic.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyers sat with us during our initial consult and listened. He allowed us to share our journey before sharing anything about how he would treat us even though he could have started there. Anytime we had a question there was an immediate response. Beyond Dr. Meyers the entire staff knew who I was and always greeted me with a smile and askes how I was doing.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I saw a few different nurses, but all were attentive. The nurse that did the medication training was excellent.
What specific things went wrong at this clinic?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyers was a good listener and made sure he was matching our needs with his medical expertise. After sharing out previous experience I asked what he would do differently and he took us step by step through the difference. He clearly explained all of the procedures he proposed and told us why he proposed them. Dr. Meyers also introduced is to the lead doctor in the lab and explained to us he could work with what we had. That was comforting.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
I would say listen to him. I felt his medical knowledge was superior and up to date with most recent developments in the world of infertility.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
The reason we came to Dr. Meyers was for male infertility. He made sure with the low sperm count conception was a possibility. We started me on the lowest dose of medications as my husband began to bank. I had the egg retrieval followed by the embryos freeze. The one thing that Dr. Meyers highly recommended was chromosomal testing. We had not previously done this and he very clearly explained how this would benefit us. After the testing we had 2 healthy embryos and together we decided on using one. The transfer was done and it was successful,
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
We used a package option. Total costs were about $19,000.

Carolina Conceptions is very thorough, professional, and kind to their patients. As a weakness I would point out that I noticed that lately my wait time is greater than it was when I first started my appointments in summer of 2016.

The nursing staff was respectful and kind. I was especially fond of two of the nurses, however I never wrote down their names.
How was your experience with John Park?
John Park is an excellent doctor! He is very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. When we had finished 3 cycles of medication with planned intercourse without luck, he emailed me in order to set up a time to meet again to discuss our next steps. At this meeting I was very touched when he took a minute to connect with me, pointing out that I must be very frustrated that we hadn't yet had success, even though our numbers were fantastic! He was always very respectful of our financial constraints when we were devising our fertility plans. I would definitely recommend Dr. Park to anyone who is considering seeing a fertility specialist.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Don't feel uncomfortable asking any questions. Dr. Park will be respectful and upfront with any questions or concerns you have!
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
To start we tried 3 cycles of medication with timed intercourse. The medications included Letrozole, Follistim, Ovidrel, and progesterone suppositories. My body reacted very well to the medicine, producing 3-5 eggs each time. After 3 rounds of no success, we met with Dr. Park and decided to go the IUI route. He kept my medicine the same, as my body was appropriately reacting, and we just added the IUI in place of intercourse. The first round was unsuccessful but the second round worked!
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
For the first 3 timed intercourse cycles insurance helped cover the costs. Therefore, the visits and medications were highly discounted. The 2 IUI cycles and medication was not covered by insurance, so we paid out of pocket for everything including office visits. Unfortunately, I do not have the exact costs available.

Some of my rounds [at Carolina Conceptions] were partially covered by insurance, thanks to a strange loophole. IUI rounds cost a total of around $1000 if paying out of pocket, plus the additional cost for sperm and medications (medicine was usually around $80 for a clomid round, $1600 for a Gonal-F round)...Everyone on staff is professional and compassionate, and all of them, including the receptionists, are very nice. They have always been friendly. I can be hard to draw blood from, and occasionally they have trouble with that, but that's not unusual for me. Usually they do a great job with that too...Sometimes the clinic can be very busy (especially during walk-in hours at the beginning of the day), and depending on what's going on, sometimes they can be running a little bit behind. The receptionists and nurses are very friendly and return calls, and are happy to answer questions and take the time to make sure you understand what's going on. The doctors seem very experienced and each has a unique personality, but they are all very nice and professional.

How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
She always seems very knowledgeable and gets to the point, but she also will take the time to explain and go over things if needed. She's compassionate and will change treatment if needed, and is not afraid to say what she thinks or recommends. She doesn't do a lot of small talk, which was totally fine with me.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
She is not going to waste any time, so go to her when you're ready to start discussing treatment.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
She started me out on Letrozole, and when I didn't respond as expected (follicles didn't mature on schedule), we moved on to Clomid and Ovidrel. After three unsuccessful IUIs (one resulted in a chemical pregnancy), I did a round with Gonal-F, Cetrotide, and Ovidrel. When that round resulted in a negative pregnancy test (despite several mature follicles prior to trigger), she suggested that we move on to IVF.

How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was very honest and forthcoming with the information about our treatments. He did not let us get carried away or get our hopes up for no reason. He was straight to the point, but caring at the same time.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
That if they want answers, he is the best doctor to see. They will get their results and they will know what treatments/options are best for them.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We did 3 types of cycles with Dr. Park. Ovarian stimulation with intercourse, ovarian stimulation with IUI, and IVF. Each time, we did shots (ganirelix, progesterone) and had multiple ultrasounds. Each time, my uterus lining was great and I had a decent amount of follicles. We had high hopes. However, when we did IVF, only 5 eggs were retrieved and only 4 fertilized. They never made it to day 5 implantation. We were devastated. We are hoping to get this grant to use for an embryo adoption.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
IVF including medicines, ultrasounds, and education classes cost close to $12k.

My nurse [at Carolina Conceptions] made a few mistakes and I was not at all pleased with her. She also didn't seem to care the least bit. She called in one of my drugs incorrectly to the specialty pharmacy. She failed to send orders to the local doctor's office/lab, and when I went into the local office that morning as my nurse had instructed, the local office and local lab said they couldn't provide me with care without the orders. This was very stressful as it was early in the morning before I had to get to work and it was a challenge to get hold of someone at Carolina Conceptions at such an early time to place the orders. Also, when my hormone injectable protocol was changed, the nurse typed out the new instructions in an e-mail and somehow I figured out that something didn't make sense and I called her on it and she then made the necessary correction, but didn't seem the least bit sorry that she had made a mistake. She didn't seem to appreciate how much money I was spending or how much doing this procedure meant to me. She also gave me poorly thoughout advice on how much more medication to order because she failed to account for shipping and timing of delivery. It was my first time doing a treatment and I expected her to be experienced and not drop the ball on her end and hoped she would even handle my case with foresight.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The front desk is very friendly and professional. The financial person, Kelli Moege, was not helpful. I mentioned that my understanding of my insurance was that it would help pay for my drugs. She insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about and showed a little attitude. In the end, I was right, they did help pay a portion of my drug cost. She presented me with an estimated range of drug cost. I paid for my treatment at the clinic that day, believing that my drug cost would not go higher than the range she gave me. My drug cost were $3000 more than the maximum she had presented to me. I called when I found out the amount and was told that perhaps I was using one of the more expensive pharmacies. I told them that I was using the pharmacy that they chose for me. No one asked if I wanted to shop around. She then tried to say that they chose that pharmacy because it would accept my insurance, but remember, the day that my drugs were called in to the pharmacy, Kelly scoffed at the idea that my insurance would cover any of my drug cost. So, why do they provide a low range prediction of drug cost? I was being treated conservatively; so, I wasn't buying any more drugs than most patients. I think they give a low range because at the same time they are presenting their fees for services and they want to keep the expense total low. That way people will decide to move forward and pay the clinic fee. The patient doesn't find out until later what the drugs are really going to cost.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I was satisfied with Dr. Meyer's bedside manner. I chose neutral for a rating in regards to if I was treated like a number or a human. He is very dry and to the point which I don't mind at all. I appreciate hearing the facts and I don't feel any need for a more personal interaction. However, as a healthcare provider myself, I can imagine many patients not being satisfied with his non-personal approach.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
My gut feeling is that Bill Meyer is very good clinically. However, he is also a sales person. He confidently predicted much better results than what were achieved. Also, when his nurse didn't call in the correct amount of fertility drug medication he had prescribed for me, I questioned what was shipped to me, and he changed his prescription to match what she called in and said even though that is not what he wanted for me that it would still be fine. I was uncomfortable with that because I believed he must have had a reason for prescribing that much. Although, now, I don't know that it made a difference. So maybe he was right. That was just one mistake that his nurse made concerning my care.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
I believe he is a very competent fertility specialist. Just remember, he is also a business man selling a service.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Meyer predicted that after just one egg retrieval that I would have enough eggs to have at least one baby, likely two, and maybe even more. I felt confident that I was making the right choice given that he was so confident that he could give me a baby after one round of treatment. He initially took a conservative approach because my hormone levels looked so good, but halfway through taking the injectable hormones, it was determined that I only had a few potential follicles and my first round was ended. We started over again using more drugs than before and even though my results were no where near as good as he had initially predicted, from what I've read they were pretty typical for a woman my age. After my egg retrieval, he gave me a 50% chance of having one baby.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
My monitoring appointments were done at a local clinic, not by Carolina Conceptions.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
The retrieval was $6950.00 Plus, $300 for anesthesia. Plus, $475 for one year of storage.

We were told we qualified for a study, and had a meeting set up with the Doctor, only to find out that was not the case. We also were told IUI was covered, only to find out this had changed. I was able to fight this with my insurance, but many other patients at Carolina Conceptions were not so lucky. They were not advocating for their patients.... Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
They may have high IVF success rates, but we were not ready to pursue that method until trying everything else possible. If you are looking to determine why you may be having infertility issues, this is probably not the place for you. Expect to have to really be on top of your care, because they have so many patients they can't seem to keep everyone straight. They need to slow down, and rethink their processes and procedures.

The only time we saw Dr. Park was for initial consults or if something was wrong. They see way too many patients to properly keep track of an individual's care. Many of the nurses did not seem sure of themselves when doing internal ultrasounds to determine timing for IUI. I also had a nurse that had a hard time doing my IUI because she couldn't find my cervix. Towards the end of my treatments at Carolina Conceptions, there was even a new nurse that told me I probably knew more than her! One of the final straws, was when a nurse told us we qualified for an IVF study where we would pay significantly less for these procedures. We were invited to come in and speak with Dr. Park regarding the study. We took time off of work for the appointment, only to find out that we in fact did not meet Dr. Park's requirements. He was extremely frustrated that his nurses told us we did, and said they did not even have the authority to tell us that.
What specific things went wrong at this clinic?
  • Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
  • Canceled a cycle due to clinic error
How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. John Park seemed knowledgeable and promising at first, however, we only had interactions with him for our initial consult, and when things weren't going as planned. Dr. Park focuses more on IUI/IVF treatments to achieve pregnancy rather than actually trying to figure out why infertility is happening. At one point, we were also attempting to pursue an IVF study, and we were told by all of the office staff that we qualified, but Dr. John Park told us we did not, which was extremely upsetting. He did seem genuinely sorry and frustrated with his staff when this happened to us, but ultimately there was nothing he would do.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Don't expect to necessarily find out why you may be having infertility issues, they will keep giving you medications and recommending options without looking into what the real issue may be. Also, do not expect to see Dr. Park on a regular basis. Once your plan is in place, you will only see him if there is a problem or if you go through a certain amount of cycles without success. This may be different for IVF, but any treatments attempted before IVF are not handled by Dr. Park.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I was initially put on oral medication (letrozole) and injections. The very first cycle of IUI had to be cancelled because I was over medicated, causing my ovaries to overproduce. We tried IUI for a number of other cycles until my insurance options were exhausted. After the first over medicated cycle, Dr. Park lowered my dosage of letrozole. Each time I had an IUI performed, I was very unsure of the gestational nurses ability to determine timing. This was due to them not being sure of themselves during internal ultrasound exams, and also having one that had an extremely hard time performing my IUI. I even had one nurse tell me she was new and that I probably knew more than her!!!!
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
There were co-pay costs and significant costs for medications for IUI.

Dr. Meyer [at Carolina Conceptions] treated me as he would his daughter. I felt he truly understood my frustration in the process and took every opportunity to explain what would happen next. His beside manner made me feel that I was going to be ok. When things did not go accordingly to plan, he researched and pushed procedures that weren't scheduled through fast so there was no waiting for an answer.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The clinic is clean, welcoming and the staff is very friendly.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer treated me as he would his daughter. I felt he truly understood my frustration in the process and took every opportunity to explain what would happen next. His beside manner made me feel that I was going to be ok. When things did not go accordingly to plan, he researched and pushed procedures that weren't scheduled through fast so there was no waiting for an answer.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Tammy was my cheerleader during this process. She was always the one calling even though she didn't see me that morning. She was the one to call and give me the good news and was geniunely excited.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer took every opportunity to help and make sure that the procedures were successful. We did not end up getting pregnant due to miscarriage but after he found out, he called personally to check on me and tell me when I was ready, to come back in. He emailed, phoned, and always popped his head in the exam room each ultrasound to check on the progress during the process.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer has a sense of humor and is always just a phone call away. He made me feel like I was the only patient and made sure we found the source of the problem.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I was involved in a study for ivf and thought the real problem was unexplained infertility and it still is but during the course of treatment it was discovered I have a defect in my c-section scar from my first pregnancy. Dr. Meyer scheduled a hysteroscopy within the next four days and had devised a treatment plan fast. Since I had missed the window for the 3 day transfer, I was scheduled for a frozen transfer cycle and follow the protocol. I did get pregnant but unfortunately lost the pregnancy.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
Since I was apart of a study, the initial cost was significantly less that we were told. For a frozen transfer, it was around $5,000 total and the stuffy payment was $2900.

As with any clinic, the cost of doing fertility treatments is not cheap! The clinic [Carolina Conceptions] always did a great job of meeting with you to fully explain what payments were due when and to give you a breakdown of what it covered. My insurance did not cover any fertility treatments but Dr. Park worked w/ me to keep the expenses as low as possible since it was all out-of-pocket funding...During the fertility treatments, there are so many appt's and for a lot of them, the doctor is not needed so you get to know the nurses very well. Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
From the moment you walk into the waiting room, the staff at the desk does a great job of welcoming you and making you feel at home. The environment can be somewhat unnerving when you first start going there b/c of the "unknown" but they always make you feel at home. After seeing the doctor for several years, the staff acts just as vested as the doctors at seeing success - they are just as happy for you when you get a good report and just as upset as you when you get bad/sad news.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
During the fertility journey, you spend a lot of time with the doctor(s) and/or nurses/staff at the Clinic. Every single time I was in the office, everyone knew my name without looking at a chart and every time I called with any questions, I never had to go back thru my history to get the person caught up on my situation - they knew exactly what I was going thru at that moment and they made me feel like getting pregnant was all that mattered to them. The level of professionalism never wavered, but it was more of a personal connection with each person there than I have ever experienced in the medical field.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.

How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was always very open and honest with my husband and I. He gave us time to try the "cheaper" methods such as timed-intercourse and IUI before he recommended moving to IVF. Even after I was ready to give up on IVF, he encouraged us to move forward one more cycle - I am so thankful he encouraged that as it resulted in getting pregnant! He knew what to look for with all of my levels and he guided us to make the right decision each time (my husband and I did PGS testing the first time but Dr. Park recommended we skip it and do a fresh cycle transfer the 2nd time b/c my body was "ready") and again, he was right! There was never an email sent to him that did not get a reply back or a return phone call from him directly within the same day - and when he responded, it was with details, not just a hurry up and answer your question type mentality.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Be ready for a lot of information! It's Dr. Park's job to give you all the options and to give you both positives and negatives with each option - it's a lot to think about but never once did I feel pressured to decide quickly. Also, after being given so much information, my husband and I would leave with our brains going so many different directions...then we would think of the thousand questions we meant to ask - so write down your questions and when something pops up during the visits, ask right then!
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
After my first IVF cycle, I was discouraged and completely ready to settle for using donor eggs. I was a low follicle producer (the most I have had in any treatment was 4) but after we met with Dr. Park (who was genuinely upset for us when I got my negative test), he encouraged us to try again - he said he "knew we would get pregnant with my eggs, but it may take a few extra tries" - he was right and I am so glad we listened!

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The location was easy to find, but if you got there before hours, or after a certain time, the elevator would be locked, and there aren't clear signs on how to access the top floor if you can't use the elevator. The elevator opens up to a wall of windows, so it is initially a bit disorienting because usually the elevators open up to the front desk. There is a large waiting room with plenty of seating options. I loved that the bathrooms all had different themes, so it felt like you were at home, and not at a doctor's office.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
On our first IUI, we had no idea what to expect, and during our consultation, we weren't told that our doctor would not be the one completing the IUI. When we went in for the procedure, someone we had never met came in, completed the procedure and then left with little communication. The second IUI went much better as our doctor was the one to complete the procedure. My husband and I are planners, and we have a lot of 'what if' questions. We could tell that the doctor wanted to get our questions answered as quickly as possible and then send us on our way.

How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
When we first met with Dr. Couchman, we immediately knew that she had a lot of experience and knowledge. This was great as we had very little knowledge. She was very direct and to the point with all of her answers, she wanted to make sure we received accurate information when we asked questions. My husband and I like to understand the full scope of what to expect for the full process, but Dr. Couchman was more inclined to go step by step and explain things as we got to the next step. This made it difficult to know what to expect as we moved through the process for the first time. During the second IUI, Dr. Couchman was great at keeping the room friendly and upbeat. It made for a big difference from the first time.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Know that she is going to tell it as it is, in no uncertain terms. If you want someone to sugar coat the truth, she is maybe not the best fit, but if you want someone to get straight to the point, she is great!
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
The first consultation was to meet with the doctor and decide if we were a good fit. Next, we scheduled an HSG. The HSG showed that I had a uterine septum. We scheduled surgery to correct the uterine setpum and we were able to start the IUI process right away. The treatment had me go in on cycle days 1-3 for an ultrasound. If the ultrasound looked good, then I would start taking Femara for 5 days. Then I went in for a second ultrasound. If that ultrasound looked good, then on cycle day 12, I would inject myself with 1 pre-filled syringe of Ovidrel 250MCG/.5ML syringe. then two lays later, I would go in for the IUI. Then 2 weeks after the IUI, I would take a pregnancy test. The first IUI resulted in a negative pregnancy test. I wanted to wait for one cycle before trying again, but Dr. Couchman advised against that, saying that it was best to do it right away. We tried a second time, and this time along with the Femara pills, I used a Progesterone 50MG suppository. The rest of the treatment was the same. The second IUI resulted in a negative pregnancy test.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
The initial consultation was $250.00. HSG was $538.00. Ultrasounds were $250.00 per ultrasound (This included $70.00 office visit and $180.00 for Ultrasound). IUI day of procedure was $430.00 (This included Office visit of $90.00, IUI $260.00, Thawing of sperm, $55.00, Semen Analysis $75.00).

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
I never waited more than 10-15 minutes upon arriving to the office. The staff at the front of the office are AMAZING! Dr. Meyer is professional and genuine. The office is clean and they have a large operation there. Everything is done right there!
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer from day 1 didn't hold back and I really loved that about him. His bedside manner is excellent in delivering information. Also, after evaluating me and my husband, he explained what his plan was for us with detail that was very easy to understand. I was very excited to have him be my Dr. through this process.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
I thought the entire staff was professional and available to answer any questions you had during the entire process.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
I moved from Boston to Charlotte, NC. in 2015 and the fertility center in Boston recommended Carolina Conceptions. Although I was living in Charlotte, I made the drive to Raleigh (3 hours away) and I am so glad I did! I made an appointment with Dr. Meyer and I am happy to report, in June 2016, after one round of IVF, I gave birth to my son TJ. Dr. Meyer, after evaluating me and my husband, we had some things we were up against but he explained his plan for us and provided details that were very easy to understand. Although the message was not exactly what I wanted to hear, I really appreciated how effectively Dr. Meyer communicated our situation. He was always accessible too. On several occasions I would send an email asking questions and he responded himself! I really appreciated that. I felt like "his" patient. He took the time to "know" me. I appreciated that he was professional. I was looking for a doctor that was confident and empathetic when the situation called for it. He was friendly but always about the task at hand and I loved that about him because he was just as dedicated to make this happen for us as we were! Trying to have a child is a very personal and INTENSE journey! I had a wonderful experience and absolutely recommend Carolina Conceptions!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Not just for Dr. Meyer but really any patient seeking IVF treatment. It is NOT for the faint of heart! You have to really want this and be dedicated to the plan set forth by your doctor and his team of professionals. As for a patient that will be seen by Dr. Meyer, I would tell them to be COMPLETELY honest about everything. This will give you the best chance because it will give him with as much information about you to make the right plan for you.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
This was over 2 years ago but to the best that I can remember, I was placed on a contraceptive, a patch, and then a series of injections. Contraception: I took for about 1 month. AndroDerm Patch: Placed on my body for a number of days. Hormone Therapy: I was instructed to begin with a series of injections over the course of over a week or so. Trigger Shot: I injected myself with this at the specific date / time the night before the egg retrieval.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
My out of pocket expenses were over 10,000 between office visits, labs, and medication.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The front office staff is a strength--very positive, compassionate, and professional. Everyone involved with patient care has a calm positive attitude. I have been nothing but happy with the way I've been treated (medically and personally) throughout the time I've been at Carolina Conceptions.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman sat with me and went through every question I had written down--in fact, she welcomed the research I had done ahead of time. At every turn, she was validating and warm and encouraging. My husband and I have both been impressed with Dr. Couchman's bedside manner (office-side manner?) throughout our experiences with her.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nursing staff was very positive and encouraging without being overbearing. Every nurse was professional and showed me the screen as she did my ultrasound. It was clear that they wanted me to feel involved and empowered as I went through this un-empowering process (infertility).
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman has made time for me on every appointment I've had with her (3 within seven months). She would lay out a course of treatment, make sure I understood the plan, and answered each and every question I had. If I needed her input (I changed medications at the recommendation of my thyroid-endocrinologist) I was able to get her voicemail and she called me back personally. She is knowledgeable and patient, and I have always felt informed, empowered, and validated.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
She is willing to sit with you and go through your list of questions--come prepared! She will not dismiss anything as a silly question.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I did three cycles of Timed Intercourse with letrozole (femara). I responded to the medication (one large follicle each cycle), and used ovidrel as the trigger shot. Once it was clear that that was not working, we tried one IUI, with the rationale that this has a higher success rate, and that I was responding well to the letrozole (one appropriately sized follicle each cycle). Once that didn't work, the discussion became about the advantages of multiple IUI's vs. the higher odds of IVF (I am a teacher, and will be taking advantage of the teacher discount offered by Carolina Conceptions). My husband and I tried one round of combination oral and injection medications (follistim) but were unsuccessful, despite producing 2 good sized follicles. We are moving on to IVF this summer.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
With insurance, monitoring was between $30 and $40 per visit, but I don't remember what it was without insurance. I know that our IUI was around 700 including monitoring.

All the staff were very friendly and tried not to show the urgency that they are under to handle so many patients, but it was apparent simply by the lack of therapeutic communication, counseling and the buzz of the clinic.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Being a healthcare professional myself, I am not easily offended by the need for productivity and turning over patients. The process was definitely that of an assembly line, but I did however get the attention I needed when I was in front of the MDs and RNs. My main concern is the skill level of the staff.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
the nurses were very busy with a constant stream of patients. I did not however feel that they were at fault for that. They have to keep up with the requirements. There was very little emotional support but their technique was good. I didn't experience any errors or concerns. The phlebotomists were very capable.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr Meyer was very honest, to the point and direct. He covered the pros and cons and did not seem motivated by money. I truly appreciated his candor. I often saw other doctors in the practice as they rotated days, but I felt that they were all competent and had a common goal. If I could have had my way, I would definitely prefer to have the same MD and RN every time and have unlimited time and nurturing with them, but I don't feel that it is realistic. A busy clinic means lost of experience… and ultimately, they are rated on success so they want good results as well.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
I didn't get the result I wanted, so I can't boast about his skill set, but I would advise patients to lay out their expectations on the first visit so that they aren't disappointed. Ultimately, a baby is the desired result and all the time and emotional support in the world won't be consolation if the process is unsuccessful.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
All I really recall is frequent lab tests and ultrasounds. My instructions would tell me exactly when to take my meds and my appointments were adjusted based on my results. The lab and embryologist are on site so there were no concerns with freezing and sending samples.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
I don't recall the exact cost, but I did feel that they would nickel and dime you to death. they offered discounts but only on packages that ended in multiple failures. There was no opportunity for saving money or appearance of empathy when repeated investments were needed. I used a donor embyro, and that donor had many frozen embryos available. I paid to be put on the wait list, only got 2 embryos, when the pregnancy test was negative I had to pay again to be put back on the 6 month wait list. I had requested to use more of that donor's embryos and I was not given the opportunity. they went to the next person on the wait list.

All the Doctors at Carolina Conceptions are update on the newest protocols and off label use for fertility treatments. Don't be afraid to suggest a different protocol to be used because we all don't react the same way to a prescribed protocol... I decided the best option was the CC Refund Plan ($22, 800). This did not include the egg donor fee of $6,000 and associated drugs approximately $2,000 to $3,000. the first donor there were only 2 viable embryos for transfer and I became pregnant; however, had a miscarriage. I decided to try again and paid another $6,000 plus drugs for a new egg donor...Terry gave me my lessons on how to do the injections 2 times. Tammy or Terry would always response to my emails of questions I had in a reasonable amount of time.

I went to another IVF clinic in Raleigh before going to CC. Once I came off the elevators, I knew this was the right place. The front staff, nurses and doctors all made you feel comfortable and answered any questions I had. I like the fact they are opened early in the AM and I could be seen early so I wouldn't have to take time off of work for my appointments.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I knew when I walked into Carolina Conceptions that this was the place I would start my journey of becoming pregnant. Dr. Couchman was very nice and went over my medical history. I felt very comfortable with her and our discussion of using donor eggs.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
All the nursing staff was always nice and friendly when I came in for visits. Terry gave me my lessons on how to do the injections 2 times. Tammy or Terry would always response to my emails of questions I had in a reasonable amount of time.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Even though I had suffered a set back, Dr. Couchman always listened to my concerns and ideas for a different protocol. She considered them and allowed me to try different protocols to try to get my endometrial lining thicker.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
All the Doctors at Carolina Conceptions are update on the newest protocols and off label use for fertility treatments. Don't be afraid to suggest a different protocol to be used because we all don't react the same way to a prescribed protocol. Dr. Couchman will listen and discuss your options with you to determine the best protocol to use.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I was using BCP, progesterone Ethyl Oleate, estrogen pills/patches and I became pregnant with the first transfer; however, had a miscarriage After having a D&C, my lining wasn't the same. It just didn't look as thick as it did before the D&C. I was approximately 6 mm when I got pregnant the first time. We tried doing a cycle with follistim with sildenafil which didn't work in getting my lining thicker. Then we tried trental on my last cycle and even though my lining didn't seem to be more than 6mm, we were successful in getting and maintaining a pregnancy.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
I spent approximately $40,000. I decided the best option was the CC Refund Plan ($22, 800). This did not include the egg donor fee of $6,000 and associated drugs approximately $2,000 to $3,000. the first donor there were only 2 viable embryos for transfer and I became pregnant; however, had a miscarriage. I decided to try again and paid another $6,000 plus drugs for a new egg donor. This donor produced 7 viable embryos and had them transferred 2, 2, and 3 for the last transfer. I now have a beautiful baby.

All nursing staff [at Carolina Conceptions] were very supportive, compassionate and care for their clients...I also had a very bad experience with someone in finance who took us to the back room to discuss financial options after our 3rd miscarriage and them promptly asked us to exit through the back stairs since we were visibly upset and she didn't want us to walk through the lobby and possibly upset other patients. She just handled it very coldly.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
I only had a few negative experiences. I saw Dr. Park on a few occasions and didn't feel he was as warm or compassionate at Dr. Meyer. I also had a very bad experience with someone in finance who took us to the back room to discuss financial options after our 3rd miscarriage and them promptly asked us to exit through the back stairs since we were visibly upset and she didn't want us to walk through the lobby and possibly upset other patients. I feel like Dr. Meyer truly cares about our success in having a baby and genuinely cares for his clients.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
All nursing staff were very supportive, compassionate and care for their clients.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
He was very compassionate and warm which immediately made me feel comfortable working with Dr. Meyer. He listened to our concerns, was honest in his recommendations and was able to thoroughly explain all of our options. I'd highly recommend Dr. Meyer to friends and family.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Ask questions and don't be afraid to ask for all options.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We started with an oral pill to increase egg production, added injectibles, tested everything after 2nd miscarriage, ruled out anything other than egg quality/maternal age, tried IUI, recommended we not try additional rounds of IUI, after third miscarriage went to egg donor program. Transferred 2 embryos, negative pregnancy test, transferred two more embryos, positive pregnancy with one successful. We are currently 23 weeks 5 days. :-)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
We paid most everything out of pocket so we had to take several personal and medical loans. We paid well over $30000 over our time at Carolina Conceptions and still have 3 Frozen embryos and plan for another transfer or 2 of those embryos.

The receptionists [at Carolina Conceptions] keep changing for this year. Unfortunately new receptionists aren't always aware of patient log ins. During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She listened and considered certain reservations I had especially since I've had a slightly conservative upbringing. Also had qualms regarding surgery though she called me about the need and did try to check if it could be avoided, but ultimately had to be done. During our loss, she was very sympathetic and didn't pressure us on whay next step. Advising us to take our time to heal before talking with her again on what we wanted to do next.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
She's perky and quick to reply to any question. As a first time pregnant person, I asked a lot of seemingly idiotic questions that other already with kids people know.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
She listened and she explained things clearly. Just wish that consistent in who I saw each check up. During our loss she didn't stress us to decide and when asked that's when she told us what options to take depending on what we wanted, consistent with our beliefs. She also advised us to take time to heal before we inform what next step we wanted, to try again or to stop, was pour choice. She didn't say it out, it was obviously implied. She was sensitive and caring.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
She's very experienced, but also very busy. You have to specify that she will do all the follow up check ups unless it's ok to get the other doctors.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Age was a factor for our decision and time. I have a condition that makes me irregular and if we insisted on own eggs out might not have worked out even given time to try to harvest, if any will. Plus the possibility of disorders.

Carolina Conceptions is an excellent fertility clinic. Everyone there from the secretaries to the doctors are extremely caring and compassionate!! They listen to what your concerns are and are there for you! They have more strengths than weaknesses.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Coachman was excellent. She sat my husband and myself down and discussed what we should expect from completing IUI treatments and what would happen if it did not work. She answered all of our questions and was excellent!
Describe your experience with your nurse.
All of the above were excellent! They were all very compassionate, answered any questions I had, laughed with me, got excited with me, and cried with me.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Coachman is an excellent Dr. She really looks into your background and digs into why you are having fertility problems. Based on my history, she discussed her plan and we thought it was excellent. After discovering I have a very high egg count and my husband has a high sperm count we believe IUI was the way to go. Unfortunately, I never fully ovulated. We decided to go to our next step, which was either IVF or embryo adoption. We decided on embryo adoption because that was in our price range. 2 embryos we implanted by another dr and I had a successful pregnancy! Dr. Coachman saw me for my next appointments and was over the moon that we were finally pregnant! I hated to leave Carolina Conceptions.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Be open to all options and be ready to listen. You won't always hear what you want to and that's ok. Dr. Coachman will work out a plan of action to help you have a baby.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
For my IUIs they were very thorough. I would come in when my cycle started on Day 1 to see if everything was good (no cysts, etc). After the nurse completed my ultra sound I was instructed to start my fertility oils, like clomid, on a certain day and start injections on the 3rd day, I believe. After so many days on the injections, I would go in for another ultrasound to see if I was ready to ovulate. I was directed to go home and give myself a trigger shot, have sex, and come back in 2 days to have an IUI done. We were also instructed to obstain on the 2nd day so my husbands count would be good. We did this for 3 cycles.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
My insurance paid for most of my IUI appointments and medication. I believe we paid out $500 all together. For our embryo, we put down a $300 non refundable deposit, paid for medications, and the transfer which totaled around $5,000 , maybe a little more than that.

I have been very pleased with my experience as a patient. While we are still in the throes of our treatment, Dr. Meyer has been very open to our opinions and input. I have full faith that we will get pregnant with Dr. Meyer's help, either through injectibles or IVF.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Make sure you take notes and ask questions. I feel like he gives you all the information, but it is in oral form, not written down.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I had previously tried several rounds of Femara and Clomid before seeing Dr. Meyer. We started with an HSG which revealed polyps in my uterus. So my first treatment was a hysteroscopy to remove the polyps. We tried a monitored cycle of Tamoxifen, which yielded no mature eggs. We then did a cycle of Follistim (150 IU daily). This cycle was cancelled after having ten mature follicles on day 12. We will try again next cycle with Follistim but at 75 IU.

Dr. Meyer took time to come up with my protocol. He would listen to my concerns and take them into consideration. He was always warm and compassionate. I never felt like a statistic or just another patient.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
As a physician myself, I spent time researching and looking up an REI who would be highly qualified, but also treat me with kindness, compassion and warmth. Choosing an REI is a very important decision for any woman going through fertility issues. It's important to chose someone who you connect with, as this is a very difficult and often lonely journey with potentially a lot of heartbreak. I chose Dr. Meyer and am so thankful that I did. I had a lot of ups and downs trying to conceive and he never made me feel that having a family was not a possibility. I had such a great experience at Carolina Conceptions and with Dr. Meyer, that after I moved over 4 hours away, I decided to keep him as my REI and make the commute back for our second child (who I am currently pregnant with). Whichever REI you decide to go with, make sure it is someone who can help you navigate this difficult time in your life. I was blessed to have found this with Dr. Meyer.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Feel free to be open about your concerns/thoughts/feelings. Ask questions. He is always responsive and thoughtful.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My first IVF cycle I used Bravelle and had a chemical pregnancy. Second IVF cycle I used Lupron with Bravelle and had follicles but no mature eggs. This was converted to IUI. Third cycle I used Follistim and testosterone patch and became pregnant with my son. At that time I was going through IVF Bravelle was recalled due to decreased potency. For baby two, we repeated the Follistim and testosterone and I am currently 7.5 weeks pregnant.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Park always spoke to me about my experience and the treatment plan he recommended for me, not others with my condition. I always felt like he was invested in my journey.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Most of the nurses were wonderful to work with and made a big effort to know every patient's name and situation.
How was your experience with John Park?
Dr. Park was exactly the doctor that I was looking for. He was easy to talk to, and he was great at listening to me in a way that let him make recommendations or adjust treatment. He wasn't overly optimistic or overly negative - just very frank about my situation and why he recommended what he did. When our IVF cycle failed, he was very empathetic. When we achieved both of our pregnanices, he was ecstatic for us.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Be ready for an honest and frank discussion of your treatment options and give heavy weight to Dr. Park's recommendations.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
He diagnosed me on my first visit with PCOS. Our first cycle was clomid (not sure of the dose), and I did not ovulate. The second cycle was femara, and I did ovulate but the timing was not optimal. Since we had insurance coverage, he recommended we move straight to IVF. I did a very low dose of menopur and follistim that had to be reduced part way through because I was responding too well. I was already starting to hyperstimulate before planned retrieval, so we had to move retrieval up and change my trigger medication. I triggered with a low dose of Pregnyl. On retrieval day, we got 11 eggs. They made 8 embryos, none of which divided well. At day 3, we had 1 that looked promising, so we went ahead with transfer. That transfer resulted in a negative pregnancy test. The following month, we were going to restart with Femara. I took a cycle of progesterone to start my period, and evidently, it caused me to ovulate because we conceived our daughter accidentally. Four years later, we decided to try again. We did a cycle of Femara and IUI. Everything looked great at the day 12 ultrasound, but we wound up abandoning the cycle for personal reasons. The following year, we were ready to try again. We did another cycle of Femara and IUI. I made 4 eggs that cycle (very unusual for Femara), but we decided to go ahead with the IUI. We conceived our son.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
We have excellent insurance coverage, so our out of pocket costs were minimal. My Femara was free as a generic, our total IVF cost was under $2000, and our IUI cycle was only $100. Not sure what retail costs are.

Their [Carolina Conceptions] strengths are making you feel relaxed and welcomed. The front desk is amazing. Scott was great and always talked to me when I came in even though it was usually just 7 in the morning he always had a smile and a kind word. The nurses call you by your first name which is great because it feels so informal being called by your last name. Honestly I didn't think they had any weaknesses. During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
He always made sure to sit down and explain everything to my husband and myself. When I severely hyper stimulated during our second IUI he explained how he was going to remove the fluid from my abdomen. He also was very gentle and soothing because having that procedure done hurt really bad. He always asked if we need anything before we left.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses were great. I had one nurse that I dread to see because she was not very gentle with the probe ultrasound and caused more pain then was necessary. They always smiled and talked with me on the way to the room. When I made two trips in to have fluid removed from my abdomen I had 2 different nurses and both were incredible. They tried to calm when they saw I was getting stressed a little. The second nurse was great because it took Dr. Park quite a few times to puncture the fluid pocket and remove the fluid. She told me what a great job I was doing and that it would be over soon.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer's is a great communicator and has a great bed side manner. When we found out that our first IUI was unsuccessful he said it'll be okay we just need a new plan moving forward. When I became pregnant during our second IUI and needed to havent fluid removed because of hyper stimulation he explained what was going to happen and tried to help me relax so that the procedure could be performed successfully the first time so he didn't have to poke me additional time unnecessarily. We lost the baby due to a blighted ovum and he was very caring and apologetic for our loss. He was hopeful for our 3rd round and left it up to me as to when I was ready to try again as long as my numbers were back to zero.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Listen, discuss, be open, and honest. If you aren't honest then your not only hurting yourself and chances to conceive but also your wasting his time when he could be helping someone who is up front and honest. Listen to what he says. He knows what he is doing and if he has wrong information you can correct him and get things back on track.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We started with Femara and that cycle didn't produce any eggs. He said he was going to have me take Femara, do Follistim injections , Ganarelix, and a trigger shot the next cycle. He asked if we wanted to timed intercourse or IUI. We told him we wanted to do IUI since our insurance covered 3 rounds. He was agreeable to the treatment. Our first IUI produced 2 good eggs I believe. During our second round he had me do just Follistim (higher dosage then the first time) and a trigger shot. The cycle was technically successful even though it ended up being a blighted ovum. Our third cycle he me drop back on my Follistim at first and after my ultrasound increased it a little and I did a Ganirelix shot with trigger. Again the cycle was technically successful even though it ended in a chemical pregnancy. With each of my IUI's he also prescribed progesterone suppositories that I started 2 days after my IUI's. I have PCOS and most women with the syndrome have low progesterone.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
My costs were covered by my insurance but I do know that we had to pay up front for our first IUI which was refund back to us when the insurance paid. The cost was $480 that was for my husband's collection and IUI procedure.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The reception staff and finance staff were top notch. Some of the doctors, such as Meyer and Park were a much better, organized, blunt but with good bedside manner fit for the practice. Our primary doctor was not the best fit for my husband and myself.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
When I went in for most visits, the receptionists knew me by name and exactly why I was there, but Dr. Couchman always has to ask me why I was in instead of checking my chart ahead of time. One time, she even took my husband and I back to her office for a consultation when we were actually there for a follicle scan. When we let her know, she apologized and made us wait in the waiting room for a room to come available.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Some nurses we saw were wonderful. They were friendly, compassionate, understanding, and were patient with any questions we had. Some nurses seemed busy, rushed, not compassionate.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
We were just another number and when things didn’t work out with our first IVf cycle she just gave up on us and said we needed to do egg donor. She didn’t adjust treatment protocol to try something else the second round. It was like she just gave up and pushed us to the side.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Be your own advocate.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We did birth control pills for 2 weeks. Then we began Follistim injections along with Menopur. When we had a good number of mature follicles, we started Ganirelix injections until our Ovidrel trigger shot. They retrieved 10 eggs, 8 were mature, all 8 fertilized (4 normal fertilization and 4 abnormal fertilization), no embryos made it to day 5 transfer, so our cycle was canceled.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
Our entire IVF cycle cost around $20,000.

Dr. Meyers was always friendly and always made myself and my husband feel at ease and very comfortable. He was wonderful

Tammy was amazing! She always returned my phone calls and emails! She is very informative and answered any questions I had.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer is very compassionate and truly cares! I saw him for most of my appointments when a Dr. Had to check my lining to make sure I could go on with my treatments. He was also the Dr who performed my embryo donation implantation, which was successful!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Listen to what he has to say. He knows what is best and cares about how this whole process effects you. Dr. Meyers understands it can be frustrating and is there to listen and help you.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Meyer was one of the doctors I saw when I went in for my uterine lining checks and ovulation appointments. He would tell me if I could go on with treatment, take my trigger shot, or if I should start another round. He also was the dr who implanted my embryo (embryo adoption/donation) which was successful! I now have a baby girl who is 15 months old and we couldn't be more thankful!!!!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
I'm not sure if individual costs associated specifically with Dr. Meyer but when we saw a Dr it was around $70 copay and the entire cost of 3 IUIs and the Embryo Implantation was around $7-8,000. (I could be off)

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman always responded to my emails personally and my interactions with her were always warm and personable. She was careful to tell me exactly what to expect with each phase and I never felt confused or hopeless as I had with my previous doctor.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
I love the nurses. They always remember my name and are friendly in a genuine way, I always felt comfortable and informed
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman is earnest and honest, without coming across as cold or overly clinical. I always felt comfortable in her office. Her warmth and confidence helped to dispel my anxieties (as much as they could be dispelled). She communicated with my partner and I well and I felt good about each decision I made under her care.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Be patient.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
With Dr. Couchman, I initially started with timed intercourse coupled with injections (Follistim and Ovidrel? I think). This didn't work, we proceeded to IUI, with injections that were similar to the timed intercourse. We did 2 rounds of IUI (I had already had one unsuccessful IUI with a previous doctor). My partner and I had initially indicated to Dr. Couchman that we didn't want to do IVF, but I changed my mind after the last IUI. She was supportive of both decisions and did not pressure us toward any additional procedures. She gave us ALL the data we could need and helped us make a truly informed decision to proceed. Day after tomorrow I will go do my first implantation. I feel good about it.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
It was definitely a well-oiled machine. I never waited long, and they were always aware that I had a classroom waiting for me!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
My copay was $70 when I saw a doctor, and $55 for monitoring with a nurse (I think! It's been a while.) The IVF was a package deal, which was great.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Park treated us like a human. Each time we had an appointment with him, he knew our history and name without looking in our files.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
The nurses were very friendly and welcoming.
How was your experience with John Park?
When starting IVF, Dr. Park was very encouraging and felt that he would be able to help us bring home our dream of having a child. When our IVF cycle was canceled we were saddened. We later found out that there was a recall on one of the medications we used. Dr. Park met with us and encouraged us to do another IVF cycle. Due to the increase in cost of a 2nd cycle we could not afford to attempt IVF. Dr. Park shared that he would keep our information on file, if we were able to come back one day.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
I would tell a prospective patient to be strong, be open, and do not be afraid to ask questions. Dr. Park will answer your questions and will keep you hopeful throughout your entire journey.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
During our IVF cycle the dosage changed and was increased because follicles were not growing as rapidly. My IVF cycle was canceled because the follicles were different sizes and there was only one that had grown to the right size. Later, one of the medications that I was using had a recall because it didn't meet potency regulations.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
Our plan was not covered by insurance so we paid at least 15K in out of pocket costs.

Our experience with Carolina Conceptions was wonderful and I missed the care and compassion from everyone so much after switching back to my OBGYN!!!...I saw various nurses throughout our journey but each one was always knowledgeable of our journey and what step we were currently at. They were all very compassionate and explained everything well. When they were unsure of an answer and felt the doctor needed to provide more information, they would make sure we received an answer from the doctor. They also provided little tidbits of advise along the way regarding medicine, preparations for procedures, etc.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Our experience with Carolina Conceptions was wonderful and I missed the care and compassion from everyone so much after switching back to my OBGYN!!! It was so different to switch to a regular OB clinic after being under the care of Carolina Conceptions for 6-7 months. I always felt that everyone at the clinic was on our side and doing everything possible to assist in helping us get pregnant while also demonstrating compassion towards the emotional struggles of infertility. Everyone was always happy, supportive, and providing hope for us throughout everything. I do not miss the 3 hour drive each time I go to the doctor now, however I never had to wait for an appointment and you worked very well with scheduling appointments to accommodate us and help us to miss as little work as possible.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman and the entire clinic felt every emotion with us throughout the entire journey.

How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman was very honest and upfront with us from our very first visit. She responded to emails very quickly regardless of the time/day they were sent. I always felt like she cared for us and our dream of having a child. After reviewing all of our records and completing various tests, she provided us with multiple options and assisted us with choosing the most appropriate option for our family.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
The whole time I was under Dr. Couchmans care I felt like I was treated like a human. To be honest that's the first thing my husband and I noticed about the entire practice and all the doctors and nurses. It was truely a wonderful experience. Going through infertilrynis hard and the last thing I would want is to just be treated like a number.

Going through treatments you get to know them closely and having them hopeful and compassionate about me and what I was going trough made the process a lot easier. How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
From the very first meeting I felt completely at ease with Dr. Couchman. I am not one that like going to doctors and it give me anxiety but I can honestly say that I never felt that way under her care. Yes she gave me news and I information that was hard to hear at time but she always assured me that I would get pregnant. After my failed first round of IVF my husband and I new right away that we wanted to try again asap; Dr. Couchman supported us 100%. She gave us pros and cons of excerpt stpenof the way as well as time for us to think and pray on our decisions. She answered and emails or phone calls we made to her in a timely manner. We felt at ease the entire time under her care. We will be forever thankful for the two miracles she helped us conceive and bring into this world.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Ask questions if you don't understand a certain process or procedure. Every patient is different and what works for some may not be best for others. Going into it I thought IVF was a "last resort" option. But it turns out that it was the safest and most effective choice for me.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
Luckily my husband and I had excellent insurance. The covered most of my treatments completely and cover most of the cost associated with medicine/injections. Complete out of pocket expenses totaled about $6k.

I returned to Carolina Conceptions this year because I’m not getting my period. I wasn’t sure if they would see a patient for something like that, but Dr. Park was totally willing. He is an exceptionally warm patient doctor and very generous with his knowledge. When I told him I was an artist he asked if I had an examples of my work. And more importantly, he took the time to explain things to me I’ve been wanting to know my life about why I don’t get my period. He even drew a graph. After he prescribed medication I emailed him to let him know I’d been having depression as a side effect. He called me at home to discuss it and adjusted my treatment plan. I could not be more impressed with the doctors (and nurses) at Carolina Conceptions. If you’re in the Raleigh area and you need fertility treatment, this is the place to go!
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Meyer was warm and kind and I felt comfortable with him.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I have been so happy with every single interaction I’ve had at Carolina Conceptions.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
I loved seeing Dr. Meyer first and foremost because he was smart, competent, and an expert in his field. It seems to me he’s a bit on the conservative side, meaning he errs on the side of always protecting his patient and not trying to get the most eggs possible. There are risks associated with the egg retrieval process and he was extremely careful (there was a part of me that wished he wasn’t *quite* so careful but it was probably for the best). I think it is also his practice to avoid impregnating women with twins.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
I don’t think you need any advice. You’re in good hands.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
It’s been quite a while since I went through egg retrieval and unfortunately, I’ve forgotten the specifics. I do remember that when I compared my protocol to what other women on the internet were doing my medications were conservative/low dose. And I didn’t have any other complications like some of those women on the internet were experiencing.

How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer was great! He made me feel important and truly seemed like he understood the frustration that me and my fiancé were going through. He didn't waste any time and for that reason-I absolutely loved! Although the injections and timed intercourse did not work for me, our next step is ivf. He made me feel very comfortable and I will want him to perform the procedure for me. I am definitely happy I chose Carolina conceptions and couldn't be more happy with Dr Bill Meyer as my doctor.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
Be straight forward with him. He will not delay any process with you and will try to provide quick results to further assist with the process

My medication I used from him was suppose to help me lose weight and prevent diabetes. After that, it was injections along with other meds that wwe suppose to help with ovulation and etc. Last medication was given after finding out my tubes were blocked

Dr. Park was very personable and easy to discuss my concerns. He understood our frustrations and tried to encourage us remain positive.

How was your experience with John Park?
I was please with my experience with Dr. Park. While I wanted answers for why we were unable to conceive on our own, I did feel more confident having the embryos tested to rule out potential problems. Ultimately we got the result we wanted, a healthy boy. In a perfect world we would have a little girl as well, but none of the female embryos were successful.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park?
Ask as many questions you can think of. It helps to realize there are so many components to having a healthy baby. Dr. Park was willing to answer all of questions even if they seemed repetitive.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Each of the 3 cycles we completed we increased the amount of menopure used. The last and successful cycle we added coenzyme q10 during egg development and did an endometrial scratch before transfer. Dr. Park wanted to add HGH but it had recently been made unavailable for infertility treatment. We did genetic testing on all embryos and only transferred those that were top quality. Those that were questionable or inconclusive results were discarded.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park.
I knew this was not an inexpensive procedure. The cost was what I anticipated.

Personalization is this clinics strength by far! The front desk staff, operators, financial advisors, lab techs, everyone makes you feel like they know and care about YOU and YOUR case. They always use your first name, and when you call, they make it seem like they were expecting to hear from you, and sound so happy to hear from you. I honestly have no weaknesses to report. this clinic was the most amazing customer service I have ever experienced
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Grace Couchman was the perfect amount of professional, mixed with compassion, and I could not have asked for a better experience. She always answered my emails, even on the weekends!! I could not believe the level of care she provided. She always seemed genuinely excited for us every step of the way, and her optimism helped me to keep a positive outlook throughout the process. If I had a question, she would always respond in a timely manner. And when one of our twins didn't make it at week 9 of pregnancy, she called me as soon as she got the news. She made sense of it all, and brought so much clarification to the situation.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
The nurse on our case Terry Hunter was just as amazing. I wouldn’t always get calls or updates from her, but anyone that called me knew everything about my case and could answer any question I had. Terry was always fast to call me back, or respond to emails and make sure I was being taken care of. I never felt like the nursing staff did not know who I was or knew about my case, they all definitely communicated very well with one another!

I did not feel like she was trying any treatment that she knew was a waste of time. She knew what it was going to take to get us pregnant and helped us get to that goal.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Always ask questions. If you do no understand the answer given, ask for clarification. Dr. Couchman is extremely knowledgeable and intelligent. When doing something for a long time, we sometimes forget other people do not understand what we are talking about, so if she loses you, ask for clarification and she will lend it.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I do not remember specifics, but I was put on medications to do a fresh IVF cycle, and we used my husbands frozen sperm sample for the transfer with ICSI. I was given progesterone to take in the days leading up the transfer, and for about two weeks after. Because of male infertility we were told ICSI was our best option at conceiving with a fresh cycle.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
We had to do remote monitoring due to living in an area 3 hours away. The doctor’s office they set us up with in Wilmington was just as fantastic. Dr. William Cooper was great!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
The cost of this practice was SLIGHTLY more expensive than a few others, but by far exceeds any and all expectations you would have when going through this process. They completely supported my wants and wishes to skip all the in between options that could have made them more money but may not have worked, and never once questioned my determination to go straight to the IVF. All of the other clinics we had talked to wanted us to try a million things that would have cost us an absurd amount of money, only to probably have to do the IVF my gut told me would work.

Knowledgeable staff [at Carolina Conceptions] with top of the line technology and procedures. Money back guarantee on IVF (certain requirements must be met) Main clinic is in a great location... Reaching the clinic via phone is at times impossible, especially if you have a specific extension that you’ve been transferred to, they prefer email. Bedside manner is not as impressive as I think fertility patients desire. Blunt with opinions, news etc.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
We’ll start with weaknesses. Reaching the clinic via phone is at times impossible, especially if you have a specific extension that you’ve been transferred to, they prefer email. Bedside manner is not as impressive as I think fertility patients desire. Blunt with opinions, news etc. Strengths. Knowledgeable staff with top of the line technology and procedures. Money back guarantee on IVF (certain requirements must be met) Main clinic is in a great location.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
It is impossible to get in contact with someone is phone. Typically I play phone tag 3 or 4 times before speaking with the person I am trying to reach. The clinic would much rather email and I think that’s very inappropriate as detail is so important in the fertility world.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
The staff is different to contact as I stated previously. Once in contact I did feel that I got the answers I needed.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman is to the point and somewhat blunt. Dr.Couchman isn’t the most warm and welcoming however her experience and education are outstanding. Dr.Couchman seems to stay on top of modern treatments and seems to have high success rates.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
I would like future patients to go into the appointment with the understudy Dr.Couchman is a professional at this and though her bedside manner isn’t as warm and fuzzy as you may desire, she is telling you truthful facts and giving you top of the line care.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Letroze 2.5 mg days 3-7 Follistim Aq 900 days 8-12 Ovidrel 250 for trigger Ganitelix as instructed Progesterone suppositories 4 days following Ovidrel for 16 days.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
I wish I could remember the costs better. I feel that we paid around $250.00 for monitoring transvaginal ultrasounds. A consultation appointment may be around that as well. My husband is a State Trooper and the clinic does offer a great IVF discount for Law Enforcement officers, military, nurses and others I do believe.

The entire staff at Carolina Conceptions from the receptionist to the top doctors are incredible. I was truly sad to leave the office once I had become pregnant because I wanted to stay working with the team for the entirety of my pregnancy. As I mentioned before, I plan to return to Carolina Conceptions when I am ready to try for baby number two because of their professionalism, support, guidance, relationships with patients, and expertise.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Nothing. We were informed of everything we could be throughout the process and any questions we had were immediately answered.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Couchman made sure that I was the only thing she was thinking about during our appointments. She was willing to sit and explain in grave detail all of the process that my partner and I were going to be facing throughout our time with her. She also provided me with ample time to ask all of the questions I had and give as much comfort as possible.

How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman was extremely knowledgeable, comforting, matter of fact, and supportive. She was never discouraging or negative about the failed IUI attempts and continued to reassure me that everything was normal in the process. If she was unable to do the procedure, she was sure to have another one of the highly trained doctors do so. I have since moved to Georgia, but my partner and I plan on trying to have our second child and have already decided that we are willing to make the trips back to Raleigh to try with Dr. Couchman as our doctor (that is how much we love and respect her).
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Trust in the process and in Dr. Couchman and her team.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I completed three rounds back to back of IUI with Clomid and injections. As we were waiting to see the third round of IUI results, I also trained for the IUI with injectables because Dr. Couchman felt that if the third round was not successful, then we would have a higher chance of doing that process without being too invasive. Luckily, the third round was successful and I had my daughter on her due date at the beginning of 2016.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
Apart from the 4 vials of sperm purchased, we spent approximately $2,000. This covered medications, preliminary testing, numerous visits, three inseminations, confirmation testing, and IUI with injectables training.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
From the very first meeting, Dr. Couchman was delightful. She listened to our concerns, answered any and all questions and was consistently available for questions and issues throughout out cycles.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
All the nursing staff was exceptional. They showed not only compassion and understanding but many times used humor which was a huge relief and breaks up the tension of a difficult situation. I always felt incredibly taken care of while under their care.
How was your experience with Grace Couchman?
Dr. Couchman was outstanding. We were not sure what to expect however we had zero complaints or reservations about working with Dr. Couchman. She was incredibly compassionate, listened to us thoroughly at each visit and always gave us plenty of time to meet with her during appointments and even via email during treatment cycles. She is exceptional in her counseling style and offers solid advice to her patients.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Grace Couchman?
Be prepared to hear what she has to tell you. The method we ultimately selected was not the first choice but after several meetings with Dr. Couchman was the one that worked best for us. Be open to any and all suggestions, she is an expert in her field.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
In total between meds and procedures, we spent approximately $50,000. My husband and I carry the cystic fibrosis gene therefore we had to have genetic testing for all embryos. Insurance did not cover any of our procedures or medications.

Dr. Couchman is very blunt. She doesn't sugar coat anything which can be hard to hear if you are older. She does give you all the information you need and you don't leave with questions. I would go to her again if I were going to do another treatment. She does take what she learns from each treatment and tries to development a plan based on that information when suggesting future treatments.... She doesn't seem to believe in eastern or naturopathic work which i feel should go along with fertility treatments. Patients should consider "getting their bodies ready" before any fertility treatment.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Didn't get huge "warm and fuzzy" feeling, but honestly not much more she could have said or done. The only reason i would lean even slightly towards number is because she is very science based in treatment. Doesn't seem to believe in any holistic treatments to help with increasing the odds of infertility treatments.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Strength - very efficient weakness - so many that they don't really know who you are when you visit the office

Just remember that she is blunt. She is very realistic about your chances of having a successful IVF cycle. She doesn't seem to believe in eastern or naturopathic work which i feel should go along with fertility treatments. Patients should consider "getting their bodies ready" before any fertility treatment.
Describe the protocols Grace Couchman used in your cycles and their degree of success.
we tried clomid for three months which Dr. Couchman did just to put my mind at ease. When doing IVF, i started with 3 weeks of birth control. I then did 10 days of injections with a trigger shot on the 10th day. Thirty-six hours later, we did egg retrieval. The first IVF cycle we did PGS testing on the one egg that survived to day 5. The embryo was considered abnormal. The second IVF cycle we used the same treatment with the addition of a human growth hormone added to my protocol. That cycle we had 2 embryos we could transfer on day 5 (we did not do PGS testing this round). On day 7, we learned that we had 1 more embryo to develop to blastocyst which we froze and have yet to transfer.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Grace Couchman.
paid out of pocket for first treatment and it was around 13,000 for treatment and 5000 for meds. Same for second treatment, but 10,000 was covered under insurance.

The nurses [at Carolina Conceptions] completed all of my ultrasounds and lab work which were the majority of my appointments. They were gentle and very timely with my results. They also shared in my joy when reporting both pregnancies...They provide toys and have a children's area when waiting. You will have many appointments usually and the front desk staff become familiar with you and are very helpful and kind. They ask questions and care about you. The clinic is even open on weekends when you need appointments because of your cycle and where you are in the treatment regiment.

Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
This clinic is very convenient to find. It is the top floor in a medical park building, so that helps with privacy when accessing it. They provide toys and have a children's area when waiting. You will have many appointments usually and the front desk staff become familiar with you and are very helpful and kind. They ask questions and care about you. The clinic is even open on weekends when you need appointments because of your cycle and where you are in the treatment regiment.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I got a private consulatation where he reviewed my entire history of PCOS. He treated both me and my husband with respect and was very encouraging to our situation. He gave us hope that the infertility struggles would end at this clinic. After my first daughter, I came back to Dr. Meyer a second time. He remembered me and my husband without me saying anything at all. He was also very sensitive to my grief over the recent miscarriage I had before visiting him.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses completed all of my ultrasounds and lab work which were the majority of my appointments. They were gentle and very timely with my results. They also shared in my joy when reporting both pregnancies.
How was your experience with Bill Meyer?
Dr. Meyer is very professional. He speaks quickly and gives a thorough review of you and your infertility causes. When oral medications were not working for me he didn't waste my time or money waiting an extra cycle to see if it would work. We quickly moved onto the next phase of intervention with injections. I have two daughters now because of Dr Meyer, so I will be forever grateful.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bill Meyer?
He jokes around a bit so don't be too sensitive.
Describe the protocols Bill Meyer used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I took Clomid unsuccessfully for 2 cycles then was moved to a daily dose of pregnitude to manage my PCOS and Femera unsuccessfully for 1 cycle. The second cycle produced a viable pregnancy. The second time I visited the clinic was 2 years later and I was placed on femera again unsuccessfully. After one cycle he removed me from that and we began hormone injections. After one cycle I became pregnant. During the injections I did over-respond to the hormones and had ovarian hyperstimulation which was extremely painful. Dr Meyer encouraged me that it was a good thing and most likely meant I was pregnant.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bill Meyer.
I paid for each ultrasound out of pocket. I had horrible health insurance though. I paid out of pocket for all my medications. My treatment regimen the second time was exponentially more expensive.
