CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

My spouse and I did not always like how he [Dr. Thiruppath] explained medical issues and procedures to us. He glossed over the details and used language that was dumbed down (for example, saying he wanted to do an exploratory laparoscopy to "go in there and clean up some stuff"). The medical records are not electronically kept (paper copies only) and the cursive and scribbling on your patient chart can be inconsistent and disorganized.
The default setting at CCREI is to transfer two embryos at one time...The clinic is accessible and convenient for Columbus residents. Appointment wait times are not long. But the clinic tends to treat patients as a "one-size-fits-all." If you need basic treatments like medicated TI and IUI, then they're spectacular...There is a waiting list. If you get canceled, you have to wait for another 3-4 months to try again. I felt like my body had to work on his schedule (which is why our treatments didn't work out).

How was your experience with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
He seems like a skilled physician with lots of experience. He does have a friendly and approachable demeanor. He spends plenty of time with his patients during their initial consult. My spouse and I did not always like how he explained medical issues and procedures to us. Dr. T also tends to drag out treatment and waiting periods so he can treat everyone himself. I wish he was forthcoming to his patients about how long the waiting time can be for IVF. He only does it four times a year and there is a 3 month waiting list. If your body is not ready-to-go on his schedule, your IVF cycle will get canceled and you'll have to wait another 3-4 months to try again. I ended up waiting for 9 months to begin IVF due to the waiting list and being canceled on Day 1 multiple times. My body could not adjust to his timeline. I was kept on birth control pills during those 9 months, which was incredibly frustrating and demoralizing. It would have been nice if Dr. T and his staff let me know that there were other clinic options for me. They really make you feel like his clinic is the only option. I wish they had let someone like me know that there were clinics in Atlanta that offered IVF 365 days a year according to when MY body was ready. Instead, they seemed happy to cancel me and have me wait on birth control pills for almost a year.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
TI and IUIs are fine at Dr. T's office. But please research clinics in Atlanta and do multiple consults before you sign up for IVF. Dr. T's office will make it sound like it's impossible to commute to Atlanta for treatment. It ended up being far more convenient for me to commute to Atlanta than to wait around for 9+ months on birth control because my IVF cycles kept getting canceled. The final time that Dr. T canceled my IVF cycle by another 3 months, I went to a clinic in ATL for a 2nd opinion and was signed up to begin IVF a couple weeks later. They didn't cancel my IVF cycle... when the same issue came up, they delayed me by one week before trying again. That did the trick, and I finished a full round of IVF with a fresh embryo transfer in half the time I would have waited to attempt IVF with Dr. T again.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
Staff didn't really seem to remember me or care to greet me with familiarity despite how often I had appointments at the office. The overall morale was very much "blah." Also, IVF is only offered every 3-4 months and 20+ women are grouped together and done at the same time. There is a waiting list. If you get canceled, you have to wait for another 3-4 months to try again. I felt like my body had to work on his schedule (which is why our treatments didn't work out).
Describe the protocols Prakash Thiruppath used in your cycles at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and their degree of success.
I had a problem with ovarian cysts, which is why I only had two TI treatments completed during the year I spent under Dr. T's care. All other cycles were canceled and I was told to go on birth control to treat the cysts. At one point, I spent 7 consecutive months on birth control pills while under his care. I understand the necessity, but the BCPs didn't seem to help and nothing was improving.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology. (Assigned nurse: Haley)
I really liked the nurse practitioner, Haley. She's a good communicator and seemed to stay on top of everything. She tends to be the #1 person you work with when you have treatments at CCREI.
Describe your experience with Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
The clinic is accessible and convenient for Columbus residents. Appointment wait times are not long. But the clinic tends to treat patients as a "one-size-fits-all." If you need basic treatments like medicated TI and IUI, then they're spectacular. But if you have multiple infertility factors or keep getting canceled, don't be afraid to shop other clinics.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
$60 copay per appointment (2-3x weekly) $400 copay for mandatory diagnostic test $11,000 downpayment for IVF egg retrieval $4,000+ meds $4,600 per IVF embryo transfer (did not get to that point) After being canceled multiple times on Day 1 of IVF rounds, I asked for a refund. The office manager gave me a prorated portion back and kept $2,100 for the multiple consultations that took place to sign paperwork and do a baseline ultrasound. While that seems fair on paper and I did not dispute it, it did hurt knowing $2,100 and 6+ months of my life went down the drain with no treatment other than birth control pills.
Describe Prakash Thiruppath's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
The default setting at CCREI is to transfer two embryos at one time. Best practice is to transfer one embryo at a time in order to minimize the risk to both the mother and the baby. Clinics in Atlanta will not transfer more than one embryo unless you've already failed multiple rounds of IVF. The question you need to ask yourself -- why is it standard IVF protocol at CCREI to transfer two embryos at once? Is this what is best for the patient, or what is best for the clinic and its published success rate?

After taking blood work, performing an HSG, and doing one semen analysis on my husband, he [Dr. Prakash Thiruppath] said we needed to go straight to IVF - all because my husband’s SA came back with 2% morphology (normal is 4% or higher). I was in utter shock when he told me this, and as soon as he got that out of his mouth, he then started telling me I could sign up for next month. As if IVF is $50 procedure. Since that day, I have never been able to shake the feeling that he’s only in this for the money.
They [the nurses at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endo] don’t seem to really care about the patients. They rush you through your monitoring appointments without giving you any real updates during them unless you ask. And then you feel like you’re annoying them because they want to leave the room. You aren’t assigned to a nurse, so you just whoever is working that day. To my knowledge, you can only communicate with them outside of the office via phone - and that’s with leaving a voicemail and waiting for a call back. I remember I was waiting one time on my beta results, the day before Thanksgiving, and I had gone in that morning to give blood for it. I know they get their blood results back for things like usually by early afternoon (one of them told me they do). But I didn’t receive a call back from the nurse until well after 6:00 PM, and that was after I called the answering service to page the nurse.

I was in utter shock when he told me this, and as soon as he got that out of his mouth, he then started telling me I could sign up for next month. As if IVF is $50 procedure. Since that day, I have never been able to shake the feeling that he’s only in this for the money. That one little number is not enough to tell someone to go straight to IVF. He should’ve offered IUIs as a first step, but he didn’t. And at that point in time, we’d only been TTC for 6 months. We ended up seeing a second RE who laughed at the fact we were told this based SOLELY on 2% morphology from ONE semen analysis. I still to this day feel like he’s more concerned with making money, and pushes IVF way too soon.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
Don’t let him push you into IVF unless you have no tubes and therefore no other options. Have a list of questions you want answers to, because he won’t go in to much detail about things if you don’t ask. He’ll give you an elementary explanation of how IVF and IUI work, but he certainly won’t go into any detail about your diagnosis or why he thinks IVF is the only way you’ll get pregnant.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
I didn’t really feel like I was treated one way or the other. I feel like I was kind of right in the middle. I never really got the sense that Dr. Thiruppathi or any of the staff actually cared about me. But they never seemed super busy either, so I didn’t feel like I was moved along like just another number.
Describe the protocols Prakash Thiruppath used in your cycles at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and their degree of success.
The very first cycle we did was a timed intercourse cycle with Femara (the lowest dosage to begin with) and then Ovidrel injection. The nurse and sonographer do the monitoring appointments, and don’t give you a lot of information about what they’re seeing unless you ask. You go in for a beta on day 14/15 regardless if you tested at home. They also do blood work at every monitoring appointment. The next 3 cycles were IUI cycles with Femara. Each cycle the dosage was increased (with the last cycle at the highest dosage). He does back to back IUIs, meaning you take the Ovidrel injection at your last monitoring appointment (all are done in the morning), then 24 hours later you have 1 IUI performed by the doctor. Then 24 hours after that, you have your second. Seemed like another ploy to get more money as most REs believe one well-timed IUI is enough. They never seemed to care too much about timing as I can remember being told to come back after an hour for the semen washing to be completed, and then waiting over another hour for the actual IUI. Sometimes they would take you right back for it. However it fit into their schedule I guess. None of the IUIs worked. He never offered to let us try an IUI with injectables either. It was also just Femara and Ovidrel. He never cared to change up the protocol except increasing the Femara dosage. I feel like they just do IUIs to make money, and don’t really take the necessary steps to help people be successful with them (because they want everyone to do IVF). Maybe I’m completely wrong, but that’s the impression I got. Thiruppathi is also the only RE in Columbus, with the next closest being 2 hours away. So we really don’t have any other options unless you want to travel (which I did, and it’s a pain).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
They don’t seem to really care about the patients. They rush you through your monitoring appointments without giving you any real updates during them unless you ask. And then you feel like you’re annoying them because they want to leave the room. You aren’t assigned to a nurse, so you just whoever is working that day. It was my first beta ever, so I was super anxious about getting the results. One thing I wanted to point out that I meant to earlier is that they give you progesterone supplements to take during the two week wait. But they have you take them orally. I didn’t know this at the time, but you only get a very small percentage of the medication when taken orally. This same medication can and should be taken vaginally to get the most from it. I don’t know if Thiruppathi prescribes it that way to IVF patients, but he does for IUIs and I think that’s wrong.
Describe your experience with Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
You have to pull information out of them, for just about everything. I do however very much like the fact that they will code your monitoring appointments as “testing ovarian function” in order for those with at least infertility testing coverage to be covered by your insurance company. So every appointment with Thiruppathi and every monitoring appointment was only my copay. The IUIs were $400 each (so back to back ones = $800 for one cycle)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
Because of how they coded it (for IUI, I don’t know how it works for IVF), each visit with Thiruppathi and each monitoring appointment was only copays and then a little out of pocket for blood work after it had gone through insurance. Each IUI was $400 (so one cycle would be $800 for the back to back IUIs)

Kind man [Dr. Thiruppath] who genuinely tries to help each couple achieve a pregnancy. ... After the first failed IUI we did surgery. I found out I had endometriosis which he removed and a bleeding cyst. ... He also tried several different ways to help us concieve until we found just the right combination of drugs ... As a patient I was very pleased with how his bedside manner was and when we wanted to concieve again we went back to him which resulted in our second daughter
The nurses and nursing staff [Columbus Ctr for Repro Endo] were absolutely amazing and really showed a lot of compassion and care, even when giving bad news ... It was nerve wrecking to wait several hours to find out if you were pregnant or not but it was understandable it took time to get the answers that day. But they always tried their best to inform you ASAP with any results and in a compassionate manner

Kind man who genuinely tries to help each couple achieve a pregnancy. As a patient I was very pleased with how his bedside manner was and when we wanted to concieve again we went back to him which resulted in our second daughter
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
He is a great doctor and sometimes it does take time to find the right combination to help you concieve but you have to try and have patience and not give up. Especially if it doesn’t happen right away. It took us a lot to concieve both our daughters and we know to concieve again we too have to do this journey all over again. Not always is there answers to why a person has difficulties concieving but trust that he will try everything to help.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
I say I felt like a human because he genuinely tried to help us in any way possible. When we had a unexpected expense come up and we couldn’t afford to do our 5th IUI to attempt to conceive he and his staff donated the cycle and the time for us to have that 5th IUI which resulted in our first daughter. He also tried several different ways to help us concieve until we found just the right combination of drugs
Describe the protocols Prakash Thiruppath used in your cycles at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and their degree of success.
We first started with clomid for several cycles to see how my body responded since there wasn’t any explaination to why I wasn’t getting pregnant and a trigger shot to help release the egg, plus progesterone to help thicken the lining of my uterus for implantation. Then after several cycles of that not working we moved on to a IUI before exploratory surgery since I did have pain during various times. After the first failed IUI we did surgery. I found out I had endometriosis which he removed and a bleeding cyst. We did achieve a pregnancy with the next IUI but it resulted in a chemical. After two more IUI we decided to change up the medication to femera, gonal f and trigger shot with the IUI. This combination worked

The only cost with time cycles was medication co pays, the cost with IUI cycles was a bundle cost with medication cost as well.

Treatment [with Dr. Thiruppath is] the same for everyone. I have a friend that also went to his clinic and he did the exact same thing for us both. Although I was only 30 at the time, I am a poor responder to meds. Rather than treat me as such, he gave me the same meds as he did everyone else...He Recommends IVF for everyone. I felt no compassion during my loss. He never asked how I was, never apologized for my loss, never acknowledged that this could be a difficult time. At 7w i went in for a scan to find that there was no baby in my uterus so it was ectopic. In that same visit, he Just pushed IVF on me immediately rather than let me grieve.
The nursing staff [at Columbus Center] was mostly awesome. They were the ones that I mainly saw...They batch people and cycle everyone at the same time. They will only cycle you at certain times if you do IVF. He didn't know what my insurance would and wouldn't cover. He told me he didn't recommend and injectable cycle because my insurance wouldn't cover the medications when they actually would. He also told me my insurance wouldn't cover monitoring and they will.

Rather than treat me as such, he gave me the same meds as he did everyone else. He is the only doctor in the area so he can charge what he wants. I've been told by several people that went there that they felt like he was all about money. I tend to agree. He Recommends IVF for everyone. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
I have a friend that achieved a pregnancy with him but she was an easy case. Blocked tubes only and pregnant on her first IVF. As someone that took more to achieve a pregnancy, I didn't feel like he was willing to help or work with me.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
He batches patients and does the same protocols for all. He won't let you cycle if he feels like you won't help his success ratings. My FSH was higher than he wanted so he kept pushing donor eggs on me no matter how many times I told him I wasn't interested in it.
Describe the protocols Prakash Thiruppath used in your cycles at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and their degree of success.
I did clomid and femera timed intercourse cycles. Then femera and clomid IUI cycles. My last cycle we went back to a clomid and timed intercourse cycle which did end in a positive but I lost the baby because it was suspected to be in my tube. All the rest of my cycles were negative.

Dr T [Thiruppathi] was always very compassionate while I was under his care. He always did things that were in my best interest and he was always very thorough. He was easy to contact at any time, weekends or nights included. He took all of my concerns very seriously.... Dr T only transferred 2 embryos because I have a heart shaped uterus. He felt that was best and it was safer to do just two....First, I was put on birth control to start a cycle. Once it was time for the cycle to begin, I would go in every other day to be monitored and to get blood work done.
In my experience, this clinic has no weaknesses. Everyone in the clinic [Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology] is caring, compassionate, and very helpful. I had a great experience with them and I plan to use them again in the future when God blesses us with a surrogate....They were very efficient with the monitoring. They had an early window of time in the morning so you could get in, get out and get to work if you needed to do so.

First, I was put on birth control to start a cycle. Once it was time for the cycle to begin, I would go in every other day to be monitored and to get blood work done. Then the nurse would call me the afternoon of my visit to let me know what meds to take. I didn’t respond to the fertility meds the first time. Some things happened and we had to get an egg donor. Once her egss were retrieved, I was put on meds to thicken my uterine lining and keep my progesterone up. All the numbers were great and the embryos took, but I miscarried.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology. (Assigned nurse: Denise )
Denise (and all the others) was always very compassionate and very helpful. Everyone at the clinic always had a smile on their face and was always eager to help no matter what.
Describe your experience with Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
In my experience, this clinic has no weaknesses. Everyone in the clinic is caring, compassionate, and very helpful. I had a great experience with them and I plan to use them again in the future when God blesses us with a surrogate.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
They were very efficient with the monitoring. They had an early window of time in the morning so you could get in, get out and get to work if you needed to do so.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
Costs of IVF and then costs of ultrasound visits after I became pregnant both times. When we had to cancel the first cycle, the amount I had already paid went towards the egg donor that we ended up having to use.
Describe Prakash Thiruppath's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology.
Dr T only transferred 2 embryos because I have a heart shaped uterus. He felt that was best and it was safer to do just two.

Dr T [Thiruppath] is an amazing doctor and we are so glad to have found him. The only thing I don’t like, which I never have is that the cycles are on his timing and only during certian months. He Also ONLY does FETs and that has always been a concern of mine.... He prefers to transfer 2 embryos at a time. We didn’t argue with this as we also wanted to transfer 2... We have MFI and knew that going into the office as he was our second fertility doctor. We knew we wanted to do IVF so there wasn’t much options on anything else
It’s a very small office [Columbus Ctr for Repro Endocrinology] which we like because it feels more personable. I think the only weakness here is that they do IVF only during certian months, so if your ready to move forward and it’s not an IVF month you will have to wait....Monitoring appointments were in the morning between a 2 hour window, I never had an issue with monitoring apts. always in and out!...Super caring and personable. They always remember me by name when I walk through the door

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
Prepare to wait, as you will have to be in with the cycle. Also be prepared to only do FETs. He is also very big on transferring 2 every time
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Prakash Thiruppath at Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology?
He only does IVF in “cycles”. Everyone will do retrival and transfer at the same time. He also Medicates you to match the cycle vs going off your normal cycle.

We have MFI and knew that going into the office as he was our second fertility doctor. We knew we wanted to do IVF so there wasn’t much options on anything else

Dr T [Thiruppath] has always been great about reviewing my chart BEFORE entering the room and always greets me with a warm welcome and is always up To speed on what’s going on with us... Dr T is great about telling you very clearly and explaining each step of Your fertility journey. He always shows care and compassion and always tries to be as positive as possible while not giving false hope... We started with medicated cycles and then moved on to IUI.
They [Columbus Ctr for Repro Endocrinology] really have done a great job of creating a well oiled machine. Everything always runs so smoothly and they make each patient feel just important as the next. Everyone is friendly and the clinic itself is nice and clean... IVF is approximately $18,000 with meds and IUI is roughly $1,600 with monitoring (with insurance Covering some of the blood work and ultrasounds)

{Dr. Prakash Thiruppath] is known as Dr T. He has a great bedside manner and explains everything in great detail. I feel like I have gained more knowledge about my own body. I can’t say enough good things about him. He has office hours that are very work friendly. He went into great detail as to all of my options during my consult and I really enjoyed that. He supports a local Christian group of women that are all going through infertility. I don’t know if many other doctors that do that. I would refer all friends and family who are having problems trying to conceive to Dr T.
I honestly don’t think I could list a weakness for [Columbus Center for Reproductive Endocrinology]. Everyone at the office really is wonderful. They are so helpful and friendly. The office is very clean and organized. They have a way the office runs and it seems to run very smoothly...I felt like a human not a number. Everyone in the office is very caring and willing to answer any questions I have. Love them all...Be there early just because they open at 7 doesn’t mean you should get there at 7. I suggest being there at 6:30 maybe 6:45.

I feel as if treatment is rushed at times, they triggered me thinking a cyst was a follicle on cycle day 8, which was a wasted cycle. He [Dr. Prakash] only sees you during cd 3 baseline visit each cycle and they don’t tell you results of blood tests they take each visit and don’t have an online access site where you can see if you even ovulated or not... [Protocols] Prescribed meds, gives you a few ultrasounds then triggers you to ha e sex next 3 days
They [Colombus Center] explain everything, they are all very nice in his office, and you don’t feel out of place going through a difficult process... They rush things. Sometimes you understand what’s going on. You’re not given results of blood tests unless they are betas. It seems kinda of like a cattle call sort of thing. The dr is very nice though... Some [nurses] rush ultrasounds and don’t show follicles fully, one will say a follicle is a cyst and other will say it’s a follicle

He [Dr. Thiruppath] is a great doctor and very knowledgeable. He ran more tests and was more involved than my last doctor. Dr T monitors you during your cycle very well. When he told me ivf was our only option he didn’t make me feel uncomfortable when I was crying in his office.... I would take Femera in days 3-7. Ultrasound in day 3,6, 10 and typically trigger on day 10. I was an early ovulator. Triggering in day 10 was usually successful. I always had mature follicles.
I cannot think of any weaknesses. They [Columbus Center] are a great team and family. Every day that you visit the clinic it just flows with success. The only problem I have ever had is with the assistant that makes appointments and answers phones. She is very rude at times. Not a very approachable person....Very friendly and compassionate. Always willing to help in anyway.... When you walk in the automatically know who I am without looking at paperwork.

He [Dr. Thiruppathi] was great!! He was always very gentle! When I had surgery he did nothing but help me through it! Every issue we had come to light, he tried to stay positive and keep me going! Although his prices are extremely high he was able to stop my bleeding and remove my septum! Also most if not all the endometriosis...He was always very concerned no matter what my questions were.
I believe one of there [Columbus Center] main weaknesses is, the fact they charge so much! They are in a military town and take extreme advantage of that’ also i wish the nurses were more nice to patients along with being more gentle!...Some of them [nurses] were great but others seemed like they hated their jobs...$50 per co pay! $150 per clomid dose! 275 for ovadrill and 18,000 for IVF Also 5400 for my surgery

Dr T [Prakash Thiruppath] has an amazing bedside manner. He is extremely intelligent, but does not use his intelligence to intimidate patients. He spends as much time with patients as needed, even coming in after hours or on weekends/holidays if needed....
